DSLR Moms- suggestions?
I came into some money, though most of it is going to pay off debt .
Anyway, I don't wanna go TOO crazy...and I doubt I'm going to get highly artistic with my photography. I just want quick shutter speed!
So...should I go with the Canon Rebel?
Any other suggestions that's reasonable? Any places that are good to go to for this sort of thing to get the best price?
TIA!

Re: DSLR Moms- suggestions?
Hey Tara! I think it depends on how much you want to spend. The Canon Rebel is a great camera (Michelle has it...talk to her).
I have the Nikon D60 which I absolutely love! You know how the pictures come out and it is honestly great for taking pictures of active toddlers and children.
I don't think you can go wrong with a DSLR!
As for places, I have had great experiences with a local place. I would ask around by you and see if there is a local camera store. They are super helpful and work with you!

Re: DSLR Moms- suggestions?
I prefer Nikon I would get something like the D60 or D90. I have the D300S but you probably don't need that much of a camera.

Re: DSLR Moms- suggestions?
how much you looking to spend? I would absolutely make sure you get a SLR that has an internal focusing motor for better lens compatibility. The D90 is amazing. The D7000 is INCREDIBLE, it just came out and I picked one up as a third body and WOW...

I just got the Nikon D3100... and I am in love with it! I do like Canon, I have a pocket camera from them, but when coming down to DSLR I just thought Nikon was better.

Re: DSLR Moms- suggestions?
I just got a Canon Rebel and so far I love it, but I don't really know how to use it yet... Amazon has great deals on these - if you search for the camera deals page, you can get a code for a free telephoto lens until January if you buy directly from Amazon. They do sell it but for some reason, they show the other sellers first when you search for it. It took me awhile to find what I needed after I read about the special somewhere online but eventually I found it. You should definitely look for it if you go with the Canon.

I have the Canon Rebel and I love it. I am not a professional by any means, I just wanted a camera that could take good pictures of my baby. I have had it a year and a half and it is great for what I am using it for.

Same here! I love my Canon. I have the Xti and the newer versions take HD video etc. If you don't need to take video, you can save money and go with an "older" version like the XS, XSi, XTi etc. Then you can spend money on something like the external flash (which in my opinion is a MUST) and maybe the nifty fifty lens (50 mm 1.8 lens - it's only about $99 but takes awesome portraits).

I just got the nikon d3100. It's the best one of the features i like is that you can also do videoclips in 1080dp. ( I also hear it was on Oprah's favorite things if that matters =))

Re: DSLR Moms- suggestions?
I wanted to spend about 500 and went with the canon rebel. I think that both Nikons and Canons are great cameras. I went with the canon bc I was able to get a very good/affordable lense that i wanted that also had automatic focus (not manual focus). The same lense through nikon would have been much more!
I have had the camera for about 6 months and am happy with the quality of my pictures. I am by NO means a professional but I do try to spend some time learning how to use my camera. It also takes nice pictures on auto for when I don't have the time to play with settings.
I figured that in a few years I will want to sell and upgrade to a better canon then then rebel but right now it suits me. Def take the time to decide the brand you want bc if you invest in some lenses and you ever want to upgrade your camera body you will have to stick with the same brand.
I still would like to try a nikon out for comparisons bc I'm not sure if I will always stick with canon but right now I'm very happy
