Re: Due to Sandy - where are you sleeping?
We have huge windows and many huge trees close to our home. We all slept on cushions in the hallway, which I imagine was the safest. Probably have to do that again this time.

Re: Due to Sandy - where are you sleeping?
the only tree that is a threat to my house can possibly fall right on my bedroom or right into my living room. I don't want to sleep in either but Dh is at me. Last time we slept in our office, but ow that is my DS's room. I am not sure yet what I am going to do.
eta - i dont have a second story or a basement so there isn't many places I can go

There is a MASSIVE tree that is almost dead and sways with every normal storm on my neighbors property. Depending on how it falls, it could EASILY decimate my upstairs dormer. My bedroom would be crushed.
Maybe I'm overly cautious or ridiculous or whatever.. but I'm not taking chances with the lives of my kids. You can roll your eyes at me all you want.. I'll be having a camping party with the kids in the living room or the basement.
i don't blame you for camping downstairs... safety issues aside,
take photos of this tree today. in the event that it falls on your home, YOUR homeowners would pay out. if you have proof that it's dead/unhealthy, your homeowners can subrogate against your neighbors policy and you could get your deductible back.

Re: Due to Sandy - where are you sleeping?
We'll be in the basement like we were last time. The kids love it and can's wait.
We have a TON of huge trees around us and last year one of my neighbor's trees missed DD's bedroom by about 10 feet. We had no power for 10 days because of it - it ripped all the power lines off the house.
The whole house and ground shook when it fell - I could only imagine if it had hit the house!
I would rather have everyone settled downstairs and not worry about it than to have something happen in the middle of the night and have to get all 5 of us (and the dog) and all of our stuff to the basement.

Re: Due to Sandy - where are you sleeping?
2 of my kids have their room on the 2nd floor. My infant and DH and I have our rooms on the first floor. I put the baby in the bassinet (i recently moved him to his crib) and my 2.5 yr old DD is in the baby's crib, she didn't mind since we only moved her out of the crib about 1.5 mos ago. DH and my 6 yr old are on the sofa bed and me and the baby are in my room. I didn't want them on the 2 nd floor.

Re: Due to Sandy - where are you sleeping?
Tonight we are sleeping in our bedroom upstairs, but tomorrow night if it seems bad, I will sleep in the basement with my daughter like I did during Irene. My husband thinks I'm silly and didn't sleep there last time, so we'll see what he does. We have a big tree that is right by our bedroom upstairs and it scares me!

Re: Due to Sandy - where are you sleeping?
We are sleeping in our bedroom but brought the baby in with us too. Her nursery is in the front if the house and there are trees. Our bedroom faces The backyard and doesn't have any trees that are big or close...we actuall had some removed this past summer

Re: Due to Sandy - where are you sleeping?
Sleeping in our rooms as usual. But be honest, we are surrounded by trees in our house (we have a ranch) so there is no one place in our house that's better than another. I might keep my DD in our room tonight though with us.......just in case.

Re: Due to Sandy - where are you sleeping?
tonight probably in the basement just because there are no windows. Our house has a lot of windows and it surrounded by trees - we had them all trimmed and unhealthy ones removed last year - but you never know when something will come flying through the window in 80 mph winds. last night we slept in our rooms.
