dumb question time.... internal sonograms
Ok, so I know I had an internal sonogram that first visit (8weeks). Then I had an ultrasound at 12weeks. When I went to see the doctor on Monday he said “sonogram” and my hubby got concerned he’d feel awkward in the room with me all errr ‘spread out’. I convinced him (of course) that he better get used to it since he has to be in the delivery room!
Still that sonogram on Monday was over my belly.
Do they go ‘in’ again and if so.. when?
I need to prep the hubby

Re: dumb question time.... internal sonograms
They only do an internal in the beginning because the baby is not big enough to detect over the tummy. From now on, it'll only be regular sonos (on your belly).

Re: dumb question time.... internal sonograms
I didn't have any more internal sonos. I think they're only in the beginning before you can see things from outside. Towards the end, you will have internal exams though.

Re: dumb question time.... internal sonograms
Yeah, after 12 weeks there are no more internal, or "Trans-Vaginal" sonos. The reason they do it prior to 12 weeks is they can get, ahem, 'closer' to your uterus that way to get a clear picture of the embryo/yolk sac.
Tell your hubby no need to worry, they are all trans-belly from here on out.

Re: dumb question time.... internal sonograms
I had an internal at every visit to check my cervix...but I have high blood pressure so that could effect your cervix...my DH is used to it by now...but was a little uncomfortable at first. I think normally though you wouldn't have one after 11 or 12 weeks.

Re: dumb question time.... internal sonograms
i think DH was more when i described the internal sonogram to him as a "dildo" than anything so it didn't really phase him for the two internal sonos i had with him there

Re: dumb question time.... internal sonograms
I have been having a lot of internals because they keep checking my cervix, I have one just about every week. DH has come to every one of my appointments with me, and my mil came to the first appointment, so I got to spread em in front of her too! Its really not so bad. Wait until they start checking you to see if your dialated, or the strep b test, my dh wanted to know why the doctor kept looking at him while he had his hand up my vag.

Re: dumb question time.... internal sonograms
I had an internal at 8 weeks and I think I might have had one during my 12 week ultrascreen (baby was moving around way too much). I haven't had and internal one since.
