Early Preemie moms - a question on pediatricians....
(You may remember my sister gave birth at 27.5 weeks. My niece, Alicia, is doing great. She's 7 weeks today -and just over 4lbs. A nice improvement over the 1lb13oz birth weight! She will likely be coming home in the next 2-3 weeks. My sister is now looking for a pediatrician...)
Did you pick/find a pediatrician that was particularly knowledgeable on preemies and the common challenges/conditions they might face?
do you love your ped?
She would welcome any recommendations (she's in Smithtown but willing to travel)
Thanks!

Re: Early Preemie moms - a question on pediatricians....
I picked the ped that I was originally going to use. I knew that I trusted them in general bc many family members had used them. Since they knew the family and bc I had spoken to them they did visit the baby in the nicu to make sure they were in the know for when he came home.

I use the same ped. for DD (T21 and Preemie) that I use for DS (he's 3 now). Huntington Pediatrics. Huntington Village. Dr. Gerberg was just made Chief of Pediatrics as well. He's great! Any questions, FM me! Glad to hear your niece is doing well.

Re: Early Preemie moms - a question on pediatricians....
So glad to hear your angel baby niece is doing well!!
We use Commack Pediatric Partners. They are on the Smithtown Commack border and I believe have rights at Winthrop.
We have had a very positive experience there, and have been using them since N was 3 and A was 18 months. My sisters kids have a bazillion issues and use them as well and I can honestly say they are AMAZING when dealing with chronically sick/hospitalized children.
As far as preemies go, I'm not sure what their experience is, but I do recommend them with all my heart!

Glad to hear your niece is doing well !
We are not in the area (we're in NYC) but when we interviewed the peds we did ask them about their experience with preemies and such just to get an idea. In the end we went with the ped that we liked the best and felt most comfortable with and 5 months later - I have no complaints yet.

He is in RVC.

Re: Early Preemie moms - a question on pediatricians....
I chose Dr. Nataloni after several recommendations from NICU nurses at St. Charles. I asked her specifically about her experience with premature babies, and after that discussion I felt comfortable enough to choose her. I think she is an amazing doctor, and being that DS was premature, I find that she is very procative with his health. She sends us to a specialist if she feels something needs to be looked into further, and she has always been there for any questions or concerns that I have. She is amazing and I couldn't be happier with my choice. She is in Mt. Sinai, so it's not far from Smithtown.
