Etiquette at showers, e-party's , etc.

If you went to a family members event, shower, engagement party, whathaveyou, and the food was bad, would you:

take one bite, make a face and put your fork down, indicating the meal does not meet your approval

OR

eat it and shut up about it.

The family member is someone you are close with and see more then once a month.

I would be polite and eat what I could. I doubt anyone would be watching me eat anyway....

Re: Etiquette at showers, e-party's , etc.

I would try to eat what I could and leave it at that.

If anyone asked, I'd just say that I wasn't very hungry.

same here. I wouldn't want to offend the person who likely took a lot of time and effort planning the event.

Re: Etiquette at showers, e-party's , etc.

I figurered the majority would say just eat it.

I was not at this event, but I was speaking with my MIL who went. She told her she took one bite of her food and didn't want anymore it was that bad. I'm not really surprised by her behaviour though.

There are just some peopel who have no idea how to act at some places.

Are you kidding me?? So immature!

I would at least eat some and claim that I had a big breakfast if anyone asked - but I doubt anyone would.

Other. I would not eat it, but now show disgust. I'd eat whatever was good, and leave whatever was bad.

If it was bad as in not my taste, I'd try to eat some of it, but if I thought it was rotten, poorly cooked, or something I would not otherwise eat (like meat) I would not eat it.

i wouldn't eat but i would be polite about it, everyone knows i am a very picky eater so no one would think twice about me not eating, it has actually come in very handy at parties where the food was inedible, dh unfortunately has to sit there and try to eat some of it

Usually they are buffets, so I grab the 'least of the evils', and eat modest portions...

What usually gets me in trouble are those huge costco sheetcakes with that 'buttercream' icing.... I really don't care for them... since they're HUGE, the cake cutter chops off 2 lb slices and passes the plates out to everyone Chat Icon

I do my best, but I seriously can't finish that cake.....

Nope, and I know my IL's side so they were probably all doing the same thing. I think the food was prepared in a way that she was not used to, maybe too many spices. But just eat it and be done with it.

And I'm sure other people noticed it.

At my SILs the food was AWFUL and service worse- the waitress said she would step on my coat if I let it fall again.

Anyway, I may have made a face and did not eat it. DH's cousins made a big thing about it, too.

Most times people dom't notice what you do or do not eat. THEY should be polite enough not to comment if they do.

I would eat some, and if it was absolutely horrible, I would say that I was full or something like that.

I would NEVER make a face or make a comment.. that is rude and uncalled for.. what are we 5?

Re: Etiquette at showers, e-party's , etc.

If the food was just 'eh' - I would eat it and smile.

If the food was inedible and I couldn't choke it down I would do like I used to when I was a teenager.. cut it into small pieces and shove it around my plate while I was talking.. then put a napkin over it.

If I thought the food was spoiled I would seek the manager and let him know that I think there might be a problem with the fish, chicken - whatever and trust that he/she would handle it in a discreet manner.

i certainly would not eat if the food was bad but i would point it out either. ok, i probably would mention something to my immediate family members but definitly not within earshot of the host(ess).

Eat as much as I could stomach, cut up the rest and kinda move it around the plate so it's not so obvious.

ITA. If anyone asked I would tell them that I might be getting sick or something.

Actually I have this problem a lot b/c I was on a very strict diet for a while (I need to do again) when I was detoxing, and a LOT of foods that people prepare for parties I could not eat, so I guess they expected it from me.
