Re: Explain why we should all be getting vaccinated?

It is everyone's right to chose to be vaccinated or not. With that said, the reasons people should get vaccinated is to protect yourself and those around you. Especially those children that are unable to get vaccinated at this time. I would like to get back to pre covid life if possible and I do not see that happening if people refuse the vaccine. I understand those who cannot get the vaccine due to illness; we can protect those by vaccinating ourselves.
May I ask what you don't or can't do pre-covid life right now?

Re: Explain why we should all be getting vaccinated?
I'll answer from a personal perspective, as opposed to a public health perspective. I got vaccinated because I want my risk of dying from COVID to be as low as possible. I went into it knowing the vaccine could not 100% eliminate that possibility, and I'm okay with that. I feel confident in the vaccine and that it is largely protecting me. I don't want to end up in a position where I'm saying "I likely could have avoided this if I had gotten vaccinated."

Traveling on a plane you need to wear a mask. Traveling internationally you need to be Covid tested both ways. Wearing a mask in general, certain places still require mask wearing.

While this Delta Variant is much more contagious and has been increasing, there has been far fewer deaths. When you consider that deaths were originally higher in the elderly and compromised people, the overall death rate is now much lower. Presumably, because this group has a high percentage of vaccinations. This is my explanation why people should get vaccinated. (Notably, there are exceptions, as DrPepper pointed out)
And they know how to handle this virus better than they did last year so that is why more people are being discharged from hospitals.
But there is no cure and no specific treatment. They've learned (and continue to learn) how to better treat and manage the symptoms of COVID, they do not "cure" it per se

Not really sure, lol. I was talking with someone yesterday who was in quarantine because she was symptomatic and tested positive for Covid and she was vaccinated and told me that she new of 3 other people in the same boat.
This is why I am having 2nd thoughts.
3 people who work in my building currently have symptomatic Covid & they were all fully vaccinated in April/May.
One of my coworkers’ Brother in law passed away from Covid a few days ago & he was fully vaccinated as well(& relatively young).
I’m finding this all very terrifying. What’s the solution if vaccinated people are getting sick & dying? What else can we do?
I find it terrifying too... and I’m so so confused why the focus, time and money is being thrown by our president and governor at pushing the current vaccines, mandating the current vaccines etc when they are clearly not working to the extent necessary to get us past this pandemic. Put the resources into a more effective and safe vaccine! Pfizer has no motivation to do that when the mandates are making their profits soar for a current vaccine that again is not effective in stopping this pandemic! We need a more effective and safer vaccine or treatment!! Everyone is too focused on blaming the unvaccinated and it makes no sense! Vaccinated are getting and spreading the virus too! This shouldn’t be happening if the vaccine is doing its job.

Ok I can see where that is not pre-covid. There are not many places you need to wear a mask so that helps :)

Explain why we should all be getting vaccinated?
My husband’s coworker had a breakthrough case and only has a cough. The guy he contracted it from was unvaccinated. He lost his sense of taste. He has a terrible cough, fever, body aches. For me, that is a good reason to get vaccinated.

Same. Especially with how contagious it is. I’m worried about the children. I know they are supposedly a hearty bunch in fighting covid but with Delta now in the mix, who knows.
Too much uncertainty all around.

Re: Explain why we should all be getting vaccinated?
I dont think not wearing a mask or not having to quarantine is a good enough reason to get it (and isnt true anymore anyway). I can appreciate that it may lessen the symptoms of covid. But that does not mean, as people like to say, that an unvaccinated person who gets covid will automatically be put on a ventilator and die. Many many many people have had covid without the vaccine that was mild or totally asymptomatic.
My concerns relate to the safety of the shot itself. First it was totally safe and effective. Then it may cause blood clots in rare cases. Then it may cause myocarditis. Then it may cause GB. Yes, all rare and I get that the idea is to sacrifice some people to save most people. My point is that they either KNEW these were potential harms and hid it from us OR they did NOT know which means there will probably be more side effects coming. I do not trust it yet, plain and simple. This is completely different technology than other vaccines so I dont want to hear about polio and smallpox.
If I choose to wait, I do not expect anyone to wear a mask to protect me or my children. I hate masks, but if they want to mandate them in stores and schools to make people happy, go ahead. It will not stop the tons of private maskless gatherings that will happen every day and night. Covid is forever and anyone who thinks we will eradicate it is wrong.

The only reason i see for the vaccine only to prevent you from possibly being hospitalized apparently, however thats not 100% either. My friend is a nurse and sees vaccinated hospitalized.
So that is the only reason. Not because of the kids, because apparently just because your vaccinated you can still be a carrier and give it to them anyway. And there has yet been evidence that kids are dropping like flies. So this year Delta, next year Lambda, year after that Omega and so forth...
So the best method to prevent not getting covid is hiding in a bunker somewhere for the next 10-20 years and wake up to a government controlled world.

I'm not taking my kids into stores anymore. I am getting more afraid for them. I had stopped wearing masks in stores, but will probably start doing so again. COVID and its longterm symptoms are no joke and I don't want my kids getting it.

I think you are wrong about them hiding potential harms. The risk of blood clots from J&J was extremely low and not necessarily related, but they pulled it right away to be safe. I do not think there is some ulterior motive here for governmental usurpation of rights. I truly think scientists and government officials want to mitigate death and injury. Of course there are profits to be made, but fundamentally I think the public's best interest is paramount.
We live in such a skeptical society, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but at some point if too few people take a leap of faith then the potential longterm benefits of vaccination will be far less than it could have been. Humans will be the cause of their own extinction (maybe not because of COVID, lol, but at some point we will sabotage ourselves).
