Re: Extra - curricular activities

My personal rule was always scouts and 1 other thing. She chose dance. But I am flexible about things that are short- I would never commit to a third thing that runs all school year. But she has done things- cooking, basketball, pottery- that ran for a season or couple months.

She's in 4th grade now and her leaders (1 of which is me) decided to drop down from 2 meetings a month to 1 which makes life easier. She's still in dance and a theater program till early December. Fortunately she likes her down time (during which she's usually running all over the neighborhood with her friend) so her asking to do too many things is not an issue.

ETA since someone asked- I work ten minutes from home and only part time- I used to teach an hour away and it would be really hard to manage her current activities if I hadn't quit.

Re: Extra - curricular activities

My daughter is 4, she does Dance, Gymnastics and Soccer.

My son plays sports....however its almost one at a time. Right now its football season, with practice 3 days a week and a game on the weekend. Winter is Basketball, plus baseball training clinics. Late winter/early Spring is Flag Football, more baseball training. The in the Spring is regular baseball and summer is Travel Baseball. Plus he does Science Club at school.

To answer - yes, I work FT. But I only work about 10 minutes from home, so being places by 6 isnt an issue. I also have a really flexible schedule at work. Plus, Im super lucky in that my mom and MIL/FIL help when I need it. Like last weekend, DD had dance and DS had a scrimmage at the same time and DH was working. FIL took DS to football so I could take DD to dance. Plus, football is like a family, its just the mentality of the league so we are ALWAYS helping each other out. I couldnt do it without a support system and the flex I have at work. Its EXHAUSTING.

Re: Extra - curricular activities

DS#1 is in 2nd grade. He has soccer - 1 practice one weeknight and game on Sunday. We now have DS#2 (3 yo) in Soccer as well. Don't think we'll make too many of those practices since he will likely just run around - and they are too early really for us to get to unless we take time form work.Chat Icon But the games are mostly the same time as DS#1 so we figured we'd be at the field anyway.
We are thinking of Boy Scouts and he wants to take violin lessons so after Soccer is over, we may give that a try.
In the spring he did baseball and will do that again next year.

Re: Extra - curricular activities

DS is in 2nd grade and is special needs so he just does Horse Ability on Saturday mornings and in the spring he does baseball on Sundays. He also has religion one night a week.
DD is in K and she does dance one a week and Soccer on Saturdays and Sundays.
DH and I both work FT and it's def a lot of planning and flexibility. Mom mom helps too.
