Ferber --- When you go in at intervals, what do you do?
DH is on board and we are starting sleep training tonight. He wants to start with interval checks, like Ferber.
I don't have time to go out and get/read the book, I know, I'm horrible.
My question is -- when you go in at the interval (3 min, 5, 7, 7, 7 for tonight) what do you do? You don't stay until they are calm, right? You just go in, touch them, soothe quickly and leave??
Do you replace the paci?
TIA!!!
I really hope this works.

I went in, spoke to her in a soothing voice, patted her back, I DID replace the pacifier if it fell out and left. We would restart the timer as soon as she started crying again. Which was usually as I was walking out the door.
Good luck. It can be tough, but it often goes better and quicker than expected. Keep us posted.

Re: Ferber --- When you go in at intervals, what do you do?
DS was 8 mos old, I did a modified Ferber method, but I'd go in and say its time to go night night, stay for less than 1 minute and not make any eye contact or say anything else. I would give him the binkie but if it fell out when I was leaving I didn't go back. It took 3 nights (45min, 30 min and 5 min). I feel the no eye contact and no more talking are key....for DS they were anyway. Good luck!

Re: Ferber --- When you go in at intervals, what do you do?
This is our 3rd night of CIO and Brynn fell asleep after only 7 mins of crying! Last night she cried for 15 mins and the night before that was 45 mins. We haven't gone in at all to soothe her. But our plan was to go in after 20 mins of crying (which we only had to do on the first night). She still isn't STTN and wakes up every now and then to cry or fuss but she's been falling back asleep on her own without the pacifier. We still do 1 feeding a night too.
Good luck tonight!

I didn't buy the book, but I Googled the cliff's notes lol. It's a pretty simple theory.
DH did it the first few nights b/c I was a mess He rubbed her back, spoke in a soothing voice, and she'd calm down pretty quickly. Then he'd leave. If your DD takes a paci, give it to her.
We started to time the intervals based on if/when she started crying.

Re: Ferber --- When you go in at intervals, what do you do?
The key is also to listen to the cries. If DS stopped crying for a short time, then started back up, the timer would also stop and restart. We'd only go in when he was at his peak crying stage as well. If he had that mantra "I'm trying to self soothe myself now" cry, don't go in. Either wait for it to escalate or see if she really does self soothe! I always felt like you can delay the check in later, but not to go in sooner than the expected time.
