Fever question
Do you say "fever" or "a fever?" So for example, I would say "My son has a fever." But my husband says "My son has fever." Just curious.

I have a fever. My daughter has a fever.
That's how I say it.
But then again there's the song.. YOU GIVE ME FEVER! When you touch me, fever when you hold my HAND!
So maybe that is where he is getting it from.

Ugh his whole family says fever and it drives me absolutely bananas. They also say "make a party" when I say "have a party" or "throw a party." That one drives me up a wall too!

Oh and it's not only for parties it's for holidays too! Are you going to make Thanksgiving? NO! I can't make thanksgiving. I can HOST thanksgiving. I can make the food for Thanksgiving. I'm not sure how you actually "make" thanksgiving itself.

Re: Fever question
Does your husband and family speak English as a second language? I could see some languages translating it as I have fever.

Ha, no there is one word that my father in law pronounces funny but I can't remember what it is.
Seriously, they speak completely normal english with the exception of these weird word uses.

Fever question
To answer the original question, I say “a fever”.
About “make Thanksgiving” I could understand if they grew up with immigrant parents. For example, in Italian, we would say “facciamo la festa” which translates literally to “let’s make the party”. So I could understand how the family continues it in English.
