I have never brought nor have I ever been asked for ID for my child on a flight. She is under 2.

I think they have more of a chance asking for a birth certificate if you don't buy a seat for him. I would buy a seat - but then again I think it is safer than flying in one's lap anyway.

Just tell him that the airline requires proof of age. Technically they do but they do not always ask for it. You obviously don't want him to be in your lap for the flight and I agree with you. Its not safe or comfortable. It also would suck if you get caught and you have to pay a full fare at the last minute or even get bumped if there isn't a seat for your DC.

I have never had to show ID for my kids when flying. Our most recent trip was 3 weeks ago, we flew to FL with jet blue, on the return trip the check in lady asked for ID for the 3 kids we had with us (1 was my niece) I told her I didnt bring ID, that was the end of the conversation and she was the only person who asked.

I honestly do think you can get away with it especially since so many airlines are self check in . But I would be nervious if the flight is full that if you did get cuaght you might not even be able to buy an extra ticket.
