For those of you who had an epidural or any other pain medication during labor

Did it hurt? What did it feel like? What exactly did you have?

It didn't hurt - if anything it was a little uncomfortable. I don't really remember exactly what it felt like (but it definitely wasn't as bad as contractions )

My natural reaction to anesthesia in general is to start crying, so that is what happened with me. The nurse was like "oh, she's nervous" but that actually wasn't the case - tears are just my body's reaction. The same thing happened when I had my wisdom teeth pulled. It totally freaked DH out though!

I had an epidural for a c-section. It felt like a little pinch. Everyone told me it was as if a bee stung you. I never experienced that so I was nervous. It really wasn't bad at all. And, I hate pain.

Let me tell you, it didn't hurt anywhere near how the labor pains hurt, It was NICE !!!!

the pain of the epidural was so worth it. The numbing needle (1st shot) was more painful than the epidural itself....I yelled all sorts of profanities when I got it, but the painLESSness after was heaven.

ETA: I have a little pain threshold...when I got my IV I was nervous

I had a spinal and it just pricked. I was hysterical crying before for no reason. It was just weird being unable to feel anything but no pain

I had an epidural while in labor and don't remember it hurting going in at all. Maybe I had a really good dr, but I didn't feel a thing. I remember the nurse was surprised because I did have a contraction while he was doing it, but I was able to hold still with no problem. I felt so great afterwards. One thing I didn't expect was that I was very itchy after it was in. Itchy all over.

I got an epi, and it felt like a big bee sting going in, then a weird "funny bone" feeling... then heaven!

Yes, it defintely SHOULD not hurt but when I was getting mine, I got a SHARP burning pain in my side (no where near where the epi was). the dr said sometimes people get that...it hurt like a b!tch but I still don't regret getting the epi

That does sound very painful. Hopefully the medicine kicked in fast after that.

Not painful just felt weird. At this point I don't remember the first needle that went in which was the numbing medication so if anything was going to hurt it would have been that. After I was numb I felt the pressure of someone "digging" in my back but no pain. Once it was done though I remember feeling pure euphoria!

With ds #1 I had demoral, I barley remember anything and I thought I had twins (that's how out of it I was), With ds #2 I had the epidural, Now that's the best thing they could of invented and with ds #3 I had an epidural first then they had to switch it to the spinal because I had to have an emergency c-sec but this time there was some pain when they put the needle in but I would take that pain over going with out it

I was given some sort of drug before my epidural so really hardly felt it going in, just the initial prick. It didn't hurt or bother me. I just wanted it in asap.

A bee sting is the best way to describe it. I remember a pinch and a burn and that was it.

I didn't have contractions. They basically gave it to me in prep for a c section.

To be perfectly honest I didn't feel it at all-I was in such pain from the contractions I didn't feel a thing. I kept telling the anesthesiologist he was my new best friend.

epidural...it hurt when they put it in...but then the contractions were a breeze

I was terrified of the epidural. I was having huge contractions and was fine until they came in to give me the epi. I started crying. It didn't even hurt!!! I couldn't believe it.

The only part that hurt for me was the shot they gave me to numb the area and then when they ripped off the tape that was keeping it in. Otherwise, it was wonderful.

i had an epidural and honestly i did not feel a thing..i was waiting to feel it but before i knew it they said i was all set.
