Re: For those of you who had an epidural or any other pain medication during labor
By the time you get an epidural you are in so much pain that it is nothing compared to the contractions you are having. It's unnerving but not bad at all.
My first baby I was adament about not having one, but I wasn't going to make that mistake again with the other 3. Go for it!

I don't remember. I think it hurt a bit but so worth it IMO.

Re: For those of you who had an epidural or any other pain medication during labor
I don't even know where to start! I had an epidural and had a "very rare" reaction to it where I got a HORRIBLE muscle spasm at the base of my neck. It was so bad that I couldn't turn my head or lift it in anyway. I couldn't even focus on the fact that I was in labor b/c pushing required me to lift my head and I was in excruciating pain. I had a C-section b/c of it and once the epidural wore off my pain was gone. None of the Dr's knew how to help me while I was in pain and it was a terrible experience. Pretty ironic b/c before I gave birth I never considered ANY negative effects of the epidural...I always thought a woman was crazy if she refused to have one.

Re: For those of you who had an epidural or any other pain medication during labor
I had a spinal for my first (c/s). I was so nervous I don't even remember. I think it felt like a little pinch.
I had an epidural when I had my second (VBAC). I was in so much pain from the contractions, that it was nothing. I was telling the anest. to hurry up and get it in!

I didn't even know they had given it to me yet. They started taping the tubes onto my back and that's when I realized they'd put it in. So, it didn't hurt at all for me!

Re: For those of you who had an epidural or any other pain medication during labor
I had an epideral. I was very nervous about it prior to labor. Once the contractions really started to get painful, I couldn't wait for that needle. I remember it feeling strange, but I don't remember the pain. Afterward, I felt like I had just came out of a great massage - very relaxed and not "loopy".

Re: For those of you who had an epidural or any other pain medication during labor
I had an epidural and I think the IV was a lot worse than the epi. I was uncomfortable though because everytime I had a contraction, I could feel the catheter in my bladder

wow thanks for all the responses!!
I always get light headed AFTER the needle from an iv or blood test is taken out....and most of the time I pass out a few mins later...so it has me a little nervous

Re: For those of you who had an epidural or any other pain medication during labor
I was given stadol _which only helped with the little contractions not the big ones. and then they gave me an epidural- it wore off and had two hours of pushing. Neither hurt getting, the IV being put in for fluids actually was the thing that was uncomfortable, but that was b/c of the nurse putting in.

I had an epidural, and it hurt less than a contraction!
I totally agree

Re: For those of you who had an epidural or any other pain medication during labor
I had an epi - it hurt going in but was fine (wonderful really) thereafter. Such a wonderful thing to come up I must have thanked the doc a million times.
For me, the toughest part was having to stay still while they administered the epi - my contractions were hard to deal with in the position...and staying still was impossible.

Re: For those of you who had an epidural or any other pain medication during labor
I had an epi for my 1st DD and a spinal for the second. Both times all i felt was a slight pinch then a slight burning sensation then nothing. Putting the iv in my hand hurt more.

no, it was a little pinch. I was more relieved to have that pinch then the labor pains.
