For Those Who Commute to NYC And Working till the end or BTDT...
Are you scared of your water breaking while on the LIRR or at work? I'm afraid I'm going to make a mess EVERYWHERE!
What precautions are you taking? I REFUSE to wear a diaper...
Just wondering what everyone is doing.....

Re: For Those Who Commute to NYC And Working till the end or BTDT...
I was very afraid of this. The day I gave birth I had to have a sono done(gd related) and have DD HR monitored. Due to them not strapping it on me the correct way they noticed a drop in her hr so they wanted me to stay longer to make sure it was a fluke. My water started to break after the sono. If they didn't keep me on longer it would've happened on the train ride
I did have on black pants that day. That helped

I posted something similar the other day on the parenting board. I was induced with DD1, but I am nervous about going into labor at work and not making it to LI to the hospital!
I would bring a chux pad and leave it on your chair at work I guess. If it breaks anywhere but at home there is nothing you can do - it will likely be a mess and uncomfortable!
I plan on working to the end and I am just praying I go into labor at home!

I'm not scared of delivering on the LIRR, but I'm PETRIFIED of it happening on the A train which is what I take....can you imagine?! I probably still wouldn't get a seat I am hoping when it gets closer to DD I can ask to work from home for the last 2 weeks or so (I know a woman in my dept worked from home the last 3 weeks last year, and she only commuted half the distance I do!).

The wee wee pad looking pads!
Take them from the hospital after you give birth! They are great to put in your bed, or on your couch after you come home.
Then you can use them when potty training your kids.

Take as many as you can - we put them on the changing table in the beginning since we had a lot of mishaps!

For Those Who Commute to NYC And Working till the end or BTDT...
I'm a metro north commuter. I'm a little worried. I have a long commute and I'm more worried about utter exhaustion and not being able to climb all the stairs I climb or my commute taking even longer because I move slower. It's already 1.5-2hours. My water broke naturally with my first but after I got to rhe hospital and was very clea rly in labor. The doctor had to break my water the second time. I'm hopibg that's how my body works...contractions before water breaking....we shall see....

Re: For Those Who Commute to NYC And Working till the end or BTDT...
I didn't really worry about it, even though I had a long commute both pregnancies (I took the express bus while pregnant because I was a danger to the people riding the subway...the people who would stare at my enormous belly and not give me a seat).
Truthfully, many people's water doesn't break on it's own. I have 2 kids and my first did but my second didn't. My first broke while I was at home sitting on the couch after feeling contractions all day long.
My boss, on the other hand, was TERRIFIED that my water would break in the office. He made me promise him both times that I wouldn't do that to him. Men!

Thanks everyone. I'm soo hoping it either doesn't break on its own or in the middle of the night. Those wee wee pads are good to know about. Ill be sure to swipe them and everything else I can get my hands on. I'm 3 weeks out from my due date but the baby is really low and measuring ahead. I see my OB tomorrow so ill talk to him about starting to work from home soon.

Crashing...
I started working from home - with DS 1, 10 days before my due date (was induced 4 days late) and with DS 2, 10 days before my scheduled induction (he was born 4 days after I started working from home and my water broke on it's own in the hospital bed).

I'm very worried and I was when I had my son too. Keep in mind your water may not break. Mine didn't with DS. I just don't want to be in labor on the train. It's painful!!
