Freddy Update-new update

We went to see him last night and he was awake and looking around. he looked much more alert but clearly he was a bit agitated and annoyed. Hey, wouldn't you be? Annoyed? Yes, good..makes him fight.

The moved him to a private room since he needs to be isolated due to some bacteria that he is carrying. I think it will be much quieter for him since his room was at the front of the ICU and everyone passes by. Maybe he can get a better rest.

When we called his name, he was able to look at us and it looked like he recognized us and reacted to a few things we said. I lotioned his hands and foot. (damn, wish I could say feet). I think he knows about the leg. He's probably really mad.

It's just got to be so umcomfortable. So today the neurologist ordered him to be put in a chair instead of the bed to see how he does. I'm so happy to hear that. Maybe it will make him more alert and more comfortable. It will also make him more aware of his missing leg.

We told him that he looks better and he really does and that he has come a long way and how long he's been in the hospital. I don't know if he is processing any information right now, but it looks a whole lot better than it did almost 4 weeks ago.

Wed night mom and dad come into town and I will try to make some appts to see some of the rehab facilities he can go to in his condition. I'm hoping in the next week or so after he is more comfortable, they will try to wean him off the vent more. He is breathing about 60% on his own with the vent assisting. If he does that then he will have more choices of rehab facilities. Trying not to call them nursing homes..UGH!~

He looked really annoyed and when we asked him how he is he looked at us with this annoyed face like "how the heck do you think I am?" Ok, Freddy's in there somewhere..that's him!

So this was a good step, although the neurologist says he is not really responding to commands like blink, squeeze my hand..etc.. consistently. He did somewhat for us, but I think he would respond better with us there.

Wow, this is hard. I can only imagine how hard it will be for him getting through the physical and emotional aspects of recovering. What a mountain to climb.

Freddy sure is fighting.

Update from the afternoon..post is on page 2.

He was very agitated today. He was really uncomfortable and his heart rate went up. I think he might have been in pain. They gave him two medicines for the anxiety and I was there for a short time today. I wanted to go back but after I ran a few errands I just couldn't. I'm telling myself that I'm not a bad sister and that I'll go tomorrow too. I got on the LIE, but turned around..I just couldn't. I don't even think that anyone else went to see him today.

I think I'll call some of his friends and see if they will go tomorrow. I know no one likes the hospital but I'm getting a little annoyed that his friends are concerned and call me but they aren't making the time to go. Yes, it's hard to see him like that and we don't know if he knows anybody but just go and talk to him. Hold his hand!

As I was leaving I told him I would see him later. He turned his head and I "THINK" he puckered his lips to kiss me and I blew a kiss back to him. He did it twice. DH is convinced it was a kiss..it could just be the brain doing some involuntary thing. He is not a huggy kissy person at all and I can't remember the last time I ever hugged or kissed him.
