GD Level Questions
So this morning after fasting my level was 100 How and why did this happen?
My last snack was at 930pm which was 1 tablespoon of reduce fat peanut butter with 7 whole grain wheat thins and 8oz of water.
The only thing I can think of that I did different was that I woke up to use the br in the middle of the night and stayed awake for almost two hours.
TIA

Re: GD Level Questions
try changing your nighttime snack to be a little more balanced, or have it earlier (don't adjust both things at once though bc then you won't know what worked lol)... i RARELY had a snack at night, because we would eat dinner late. My fasting levels were always in the low 70s though.
eta - i'm sure being awake for that long in the middle of the night could have had something to do with it too!

Re: GD Level Questions
yeah between the pb sugar and the crackers it was probably too many carbs. i always stuck wtih what worked, for the most part. it got really boring though, lol.
i think i told you this before but my go-to lunch was a low carb small (i think it was like 8-inch) whole wheat wrap with black beans, cheese, salsa, jalapenos, and fat free sour cream.

Re: GD Level Questions
your probably having to much carbs in your snack.
I have dinner later and never have the apetite or time before bed to have the nighttime snack. My fasting is usually in the 60's

Re: GD Level Questions
True story: I have been eating 1/2 cup of Breyer's full-fat vanilla ice cream with a sprinkling of cinnamon as my nighttime snack every night for the past week and 6 out of the 7 days I have been below 90 in the AM with NO MEDS! During my last pregnancy I was on insulin at this point. I also try to walk at least 30 minutes every afternoon. I don't know what, if any, of these things are helping, but my numbers (fasting and post-meals) are way down and I may not need meds at all this pregnancy (fingers crossed!).

Re: GD Level Questions
You can actually get a spike in blood sugar levels at night from fasting. Some people are more prone to this than other people. I was eating my snack too early in the evening, and my endocrinologist recommended that I eat like an ounce of almonds right before bed, since I've been doing that my AM #'s have been much better.

Re: GD Level Questions
I think being up in the middle of the night contributed to it. I've noticed when I can't fall back asleep and have been up for a while during the night my fasting number is higher.
You may want to alter your nighttime snack. Either have something with slightly fewer carbs or add more protein to the snack like cheese sticks.
If your fasting number is high and continues to be high over a period of time, it could be due to hormones and there's nothing you can do to lower it except insulin. Hopefully it was just a fluke though.

Re: GD Level Questions
i agree that sounds like too much for a bedtime snack. I was told maybe to try to have a glass of milk or some cheese and a few crackers. I will admit I have sprinkled cinnamon on a few things that may be weird but i think it works. Im assuming your after dinner number was good before had your snack. You may not need to have a night time snack either if you test again and have the same result. I usually never had a snack but if I ate dinner too early my keytones in the am were high so thats the only reason i had a snack.
I think its just a trial and error to see how your body works. Everyone is different. GL
