It's the point of it. The economy is in shambles and he chooses to spend money on an unscheduled, paid day off. There are much better uses for that money, IMO.
Do NOT get me started on govt. workers posting on LIF during work hours...

I work for the government and have to take a vacation day on the day after christmas, but I think that is great that federal employees get that day. Most government employees are highly underpaid. One of the major reasons government employees work for the government is for the benefits - this is one of the tiny benefits. They aren't going to give any raises, so a day off is a way of saying thank you.

I think this comment is really uncalled for. How do you know that people aren't posting on their lunch break? You have no idea how hard many of the gov't employees are working right now. Many of them are doing the jobs of 2-3 people. These men and women deserve a day off too. And it doesn't mean that their work won't get done.
Most of the LIF posters during the day are posting from work. So what? As long as the job gets done, who cares?

i took off that day. i'm quite sure if not everyone, most people do posts while they're at work. i could only do it when i'm on lunch.

Very true, I mean seriously people are entitled to breaks and how do u know when they are posting during "work hours" it's not during their vacation time either. Most of my family works for the gov't and they work very hard and a lot of them work extra unpaid hours to make sure their job is done. I would never look at them or their co-works and think they are a waste of our tax dollars in anyway shape or form. This post got mean for no reason. For those of you who made nasty remarks on people that you don't even know's work ethic s*ck it. For all of you who have a day off enjoy it I am sure you deserve it.

Are you kidding me? Because non-government workers don't post on LIF during work hours? You did not just say that.

I technically work for the state, and yes, I do post from work. As I simultaneously represent abused and neglected children. Sorry I don't spend every second working. Sometimes, you need a second to clear your head.

I usually do not respond to controversal posts like this, but this one I can't hold back.
First off, I work for the Government, and I DO NOT post while at work. I dont have that option to even use a computer at lunch. I have to wait until I get home and check out all I miss!
But most of these LIF posters are at work during the hours of 9-5 and not ALL are govt employees. So don't knock us, where are you posting from?
Also most Gov't employees are highly underpaid so having alittle "perk" is well deserved.
And lastly what about the "Federal Law Enforcement officers"
who dont get those days off or even holidays for that matter because they are sworn to protect you on planes, in airports, in the city, etc.
And those serving overseas who dont get any time off.
So when you talk about "government workers" just remember not all government workers have the luxury of posting on the internet.
So I am sorry if you have to take that day as a holiday, but dont be bitter at the rest of us. Maybe get a govt job.
