The reason I did 
is because of this comment:
I personally believe that people just have too much time on their hands now and they spend that time pretending to get all offended - with that free time maybe build up the community so no one can say anything bad about it.
If this was not meant for the people that were responding on this thread, I am sorry, but as someone that lives in these areas, I thought is meant that I have too much time on my hands 'pretending' to be offended.

The fact remains the same, if he said it about a town that is mostly minorities, or the indian reservation the apology would be expected & would have come much sooner. His remarks were ignorant & he was made aware they were offensive to many. Saying sorry is a very easy thing to do and its almost always the right thing. That's like "lessons from your mother 101"
Is he gay? Would he be ok with being mocked about his sexuality? (I don't know if he is gay but sure seems that way).

Yes I see how you could think that. That is not how I meant it though. I apologize for the confusion.
I just couldn't see wasting my time, going out of my way, to make a radio host apologize about something I found offensive.
Obviously I see nothing wrong with wasting time on a message board, because that is what I am doing! lol

I generally don't like people who think that being mean for the sake of being mean is cool and funny.
NO ONE likes it when people gig on their hood. NO ONE. sure, sometimes you can laugh it off, but when an area is being called "the armpit" of a large land mass...there are problems....especially when it is by people who have NEVER even been there (as I have seen)
I recently did some research on the area b/c my mom almost bought a house there (the deal fell through) she is still looking in the area. and she's aware of both the REAL issues with it, as well as the urban legends and the telephone type rumors.
O & A and wannabe hacks. but people listen and repeat. and when that stuff effects property value and worse, begins to dig in to a families feeling about their HOME...it's disgusting.

first of all, its REALLY hard for a little tiny simley to be truly obnoxious....certainly if you don't think BASHING an entire hardworking community is obnoxios you don't find a friggin smiley obnoxious do you?

I get being a little offended, for sure. I live in Patchogue. And I used to live in Baywood. But seriously- there are reasons the town has a bad rap. It's not the fault of someone who talks about it on the radio. I think it's sort of... transference of anger, no?
If you don't like someone's opinions, don't. But just because they're different from yours, doesn't mean they should have to apologize. Even if they are mean spirited. Change the station.

I agree and I disagree... while I definitely agree in the power of it can be construed as a playful gesture...
<---this guy is effective when placed with appropriate text, for example: " gee Tilde, I'm not sure I understood what you mean by wasting time"
sometimes a response with alone (or multiple times) can seem abhorrent. Perhaps it's his scowl....

I don't think it's necessarily that you just don't want to hear it.
I think it's a matter of getting the GOOD info out there too. and not having your town used as "comedic" fodder.
it's hard to change a perception of something when the negative is still being projected to the greater public.
any stereotype fights against this. you can make similar arguments about religious perceptions, race perceptions
you are fighting against reality on one side (the real problems) and the COMPOUNDING of them by idiots who'd rather knock the problems to get a laugh and maybe some ratings.
how about the radio station hosting some kind of clean up event for a park out there or something. they CAN use their positon as a platform for good here too.

I kind of agree with this, and I know the area very well. BIL was in 3 different homeless shelters in Mastic, Shirley, and Mastic Beach. People have called my area white trash, but you have to blow it off and be secure about yourself. So it has a bad rep...I don't know many people who moved there without knowing about the reputation.
