GHI/Empire hospital Bills
Sorry ladies to crash but I was wondering how much your hospital bills cost when you gave birth? I am a NYC teacher who has GHI and Empire for the hospitals. Thanks for your help!

I think I maybe had a 50$ or 100$ copay. I don't know what the orignal bill was.

Copay for the hospital stay was $300 for me- but it depends on your plan.
ETA- my DH is a NYC employee too so you will probably have the same copay

Also make sure you call the NYC Healthline on the back of your card to get pre-authorized for your hospital stay.
My Dr's office did it for me but if you aren't sure, call the hotline soon.

I had Empire as my primary coverage and GHI as the secondary (through DH) I paid NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!! Free!!!! Nada!!!!! Zilch!!!!!! $0.00 And I had a c-section!

300...and as a pp stated make sure you call the healthline before and after you give birth so they authorize it

My orginal bill was over $17,000, I had to pay $300
ETA: also a teacher w/ GHI/Empire

Yes! This is very important. Call them and let them know your due date or date of scheduled c/s. I paid $300 for each time I was in the hospital for my 2 DDs- vag birth and a c-section (5 days). And I had a private room when I had the c/s. Empire paid for it all!

Mine was $300 too - plus there may be bills for drs that don't accept GHI - I'm still fighting my anesthesia bill and the ped bill (our ped didn't go to that hospital).
