Re: Gilgo Beach search
Here is an article from the NY Times. Completely different information than Newsday. They are saying that they believe it is a police officer who committed these murders.

Re: Gilgo Beach search
after reading the article, it seems as though the bodies found most recently (in march) might not even be linked to those in december?

I read someone in law enforcement. But, not sure I believe that. Anyone that watches shows like L&O or CSI would know how to get throw away cell phones, etc.

right. someone versed in/familiar with law enforcement procedures, which like you said could be someone who watches shows like that. or heck, even a criminal lawyer or prosecutor. or a crime lab tech.

Re: Gilgo Beach search
I just saw something odd. I was driving down my street in Lindenhurst & saw a caravan of 2 SUVs, a pickup truck & a cop car labelled K-9. The 1st 3 trucks all had the MESARD logo on them and the cop car one said it was from Spotsylvania county (or something like that...I'm googling it now). Like a snoop I followed them around the block & they stopped at a school...seems weird though. Think they're tied to the Gilgo search? They seem to specialize in wilderness searching...
ETA: OK - the cop car looks like the one on this page (it was gold & white) , but it had some sort of vent/fan thing in the back window, which I imagine is for the dog. Spotsylvania is in VA though!

Re: Gilgo Beach search
I called the tipline today (while my DH ridiculed me) because I saw something really creepy. They sent me right to homocide and were so nice about it. They said not to feel stupid and they are checking it out.
It's sooo scary!

Wow, don't know what you saw but that's frightening.
I know that often cases like these, while there's a lot of nonsensical and calls with false allegations against others made, the police really rely on the tips from the public in solving them.

Maybe. That Texas Equisearch company is known to go to other areas to search for missing people, so it's possible I suppose

I don't really want to post what i saw. But, I kinda feel stupid about it. It's probably nothing and I hate the thought of wasting police resources . I sat on it for a few hours and it really bugged me so I called. They were intersted in what I had to say and wrote it all down and said they would send someone over to check it out. I honestly hope it was nothing! i just kept thinking that I would never forgive myself if in a few months they found four bodies in that spot.

I feel like they always speculate any serial killer is in police officer or law enforcement. Honestly, you can become well verse these days on law enforcement related things by reading the internet
Keep in my mind sometimes the police "leak" information to the media to try and draw out the actuall killer(s), even if it's saying they have a suspect when they really dont.

Re: Gilgo Beach search
I know its all speculation but I thought the article had a different spin then Newsday.
As for suspicious activity I think this put everyone on high alert and now we double look at everything and everyone. The other day I was driving on 231 SB and was getting off at the John St exit when I noticed a man standing on the shoulder of the NB lanes looking down (entrance ramp onto 231 from JOhn st) in the wooded area. I thought it was very strange for a man to be standing there. There was no car around so its not like his car broke down...I didnt call but I can see that man clearly in my head....

Re: Gilgo Beach search
I know the Post isn't exactly the go to paper for accurate info but I'm just seeing this:
Child's body found in Long Island serial killer's graveyard
NY POST LINK
In reading the article I also notice this: The source added that no searches for more possible bodies have been scheduled on weekends since the corpses were discovered, also out of concern for overtime costs.
Overtime costs? really? I want to believe that this is completely false and they have other reasoning. Eight bodies found, a woman still missing last seen in the area and now a possible child found and the concern is overtime costs?
Again I'll take it with a grain of salt bc it is the Post.
