Good hospital for delivering baby
I'm not pregnant (yet) but am New to Long Island and am in search of an obgyn. I want to factor in the doctors hospital affiliation when making my decision but I dot know anything about log island hospitals. What haspitals are good for labor and delivery.
Edited to add: I live in merrick

In Nassau, Withrop is one of the best. My OB/GYN is in Garden City and they deliver at Winthrop only.

NORTH SHORE HANDS DOWN!
I had to scream that because it was just that amazing. As the previous posted stated, great rooms, great food, etc. But they also have a high level of care for you and the baby. I had wonderful medical care there. and they have a great nicu too (just in case, you never know) but that is important.

I have been getting amazing care at LIJ and now that they opened their new wing, you feel like you're walking into a really fancy hotel each time you go!

Winthrop. And ditto to the NICU staff. DD had an unexpected stay at the NICU and the staff there was fabulous.. nuturing, understanding and not pushy (except for one, but I think I was hormonal )

Two different ones:
North Shore LIJ (or North Shore University Hospital) is on Community Dr
LIJ (Katz Women's Center) is off of Lakeville Road.

LOVED North Shore University Hospital....LOVED. great birthing and recovery rooms, nursing staff is hit or miss but the second shift was PHENOM! Can't rave enough and this is coming from someone who is not a fan of hopsitals and hopes to birth DC 2 in a birthing center.

Re: Good hospital for delivering baby
I'll probably go with north shore. Can someone recommend their obgyn? I am looking for one who has never been sued for malpractice and went to med school in the US and believe it or not it's difficult to find a doctor like that.

THIS!
My friend is there now under observation and I was just visiting her and holy moly it looks like a Marriott. Gorgeous.
I delivered at Good Sam, but that's in Suffolk and while I thought they were wonderful during delivery, I was underwhelmed with the recovery staff.

Gonna be tough to find someone who has never been sued for malpractice... not sure how you could find out if they have ever been found guilty of malpractice.

You're right. I guess I want one who hasn't been sued more than 2x and who has not settled any cases. I'm so afraid that something will go wrong during delivery

Re: Good hospital for delivering baby
Dr Jessica Jacob, I love her. She has no record of malpractice suits according to the NYS website. She delivers @ North Shore.

Re: Good hospital for delivering baby
I LOVED LIJ and this was 5 yrs ago, now I hear it's even better, all private rooms and all ... Few of my friends delivered there and they are very happy.
I just delivered at NSUH in Manhasset in September and I absolutely HATED it, it was the worst experience ever and I am very disappointed. A private room was the only good part if it . I may be the only person in NY who feels this way , but my stay there was just horrible, terrible nurses, terrible " service" . I was supposed to stay 4 days but I left on the third day , in the afternoon. Couldn't wait to get out of there.

I agree with this. Had such a fantastic experience, DH and I felt like we were in our own little cocoon with DD and really, really enjoyed the entire experience. Dr. Trongone is my doc and I cannot say enough amazing things about him.

ITA - The L&D suite and nurse were awesome and the private room was absolutely great, but starting on Day 2, the nursing staff and "service" was really disappointing. On the 2nd night, I actually changed my own sheets on my bed while a nurse stood there and watched me. (I know nurses don't change sheets, but she could have gotten someone there to do it) Food delivery took forever and the nurses were very scarce. Took 6 hours to get a breast pump, and when it came at 11:30pm the nurse was annoyed that I didn't want to wake up and use it.
Discharge was a nightmare - My doc signed off on me leaving around 7:30am, but the nurse didn't come back until maybe 11:30am to do it. Then she forgot to give me an important paper that I needed to get my DD on or insurance. I had to go back up to medical records to request it and ended up having to pay for it!
I thought I was alone in that I didn't have a super great experience with my stay!
ETA - My OB/GYN is Dr Jessica Jacob. Sometimes a long wait in the office - but she is amazing! Only delivers at North Shore Manhasset.

Good hospital for delivering baby
I just delivered at North Shore (Manhasset) and cannot say enough positive things about my experience there. The new wing, with each patient getting a private room, is just gorgeous. The staff is WONDERFUL. My OB group is ProHealth.
