Re: Groom Killed on Wedding Day

Cops are ABSOLUTELY taught to shoot to kill. Do you think shooting someone in their legs disables their ability to fire a gun?

Re: Groom Killed on Wedding Day

We can all speculate and say what should have happened...but none of us were there, none of carry a gun for our job, or have been put in this situation, so how can we comment on what the cops should have done?

They have the most thankless job in the world...

I don't know all the details. But I do have to say that I immediately got shivers, and thought of the Giuliani days. Chat Icon

It was so late, they weren't in the best part of NYC, if the cops were undercover in an unmarked car and it was twilight out, wouldn't you too try to leave? Maybe they thought they were being robbed...or worse?

What happened to "freeze", "don't move", "police"? It seems that those words may have been missed.

I think it's pretty gross that accusations about their character are already being posted as well. Let's remember that someone died and the other 2 are in the hospital.

Who cares that they had criminal records...did the cops know this ahead of time?

Let's not blame the victim (s).

There's always 3 sides to the story...the left side, the right side and the truth. Can't wait for all of them to come out.

No matter how it's spun, 50 shots is excessive.

So ttue!!!

I feel the most sorry for the bride. Losing her husband, and having to read he was on his way for a "bite to eat" with one of the strippers.

...at a club under investigation for prostitution.

I know, that made me sick to my stomach too.

Wow.. Didn't know this. Chat Icon

eta- I have never heard of cops believing in you shoot to kill...EVER......Every cop in my family says you shoot to wound...EVEN against the most horrific killers, you DONT shoot to kill.

I don't know where your family members trained or with what department, but I was always told otherwise. If that firearm is coming out...there's a reason...your life is in danger. My whole family is in LE (and I was heading in that direction as well) and they laugh at the whole "shoot the tires" or "shoot him in the leg" scenes in movies. You're not trained to do that...you're trained to aim for the chest and head.

And I was told 100% otherwise. My Dad was 24 years in the NYPD as A cop and detective and always said you never shoot to kill.

I couldnt count how many times he unfortunatly fired his gun....he was wounded to force his retirement and he never killed anyone....

I honestly have never heard anyone say they shoot to kill.....that makes me sick to think about.

I dont know where your getting your info from, but its not correct.

They are taught to aim at the legs...ALWAYS the legs first. Thats a known fact actually?

They ARE told shoot to kill. Because if you have your gun out and you are shooting, it is a dire situation.

Also the torso is the biggest target on a body....it's not so easy to aim for a knee cap.

are you people insane?

THEY ARE NOT taught to shoot to kill. Thats the scariest thought I ever heard. PLEASE go ask anyone trained in law enforcement.

They are taught to SHOOT TO STOP....Those are the words used...shoot to stop or SHOOT TO NUETRALIZE..

go look in any manual....

You are SO dead wrong it makes me sick to think about......

In my fathers 25 years on the job, he never shot his gun at anyone.

He had it drawn plenty of times, but never fired a shot

same with my Uncle- is retired- and worked in some not so hot areas and never shot at any one

Ask them about their training. Were they told to aim at the leg or vehicle tires??? No...head and chest. If you're going to pull the trigger...it's not to "wound" them.

My dad was 27 years on the force as well. He ALWAYS said shoot to kill. You never want to wound - it gives them another chance to take aim at you.
Fortunately my father never had to make that decision. He drew his gun once.

from the article.....

Police thought one of the men in the car might have had a gun, but investigators found no weapons. It was unclear what prompted police to open fire, Kelly said

so now after beeing shot at and hit- a mystery man ran away with the gun?

??????

Quite possible, yes. They also had an altercation outside of the club, and a gun was mentioned.

I will say one thing though, Sharpton LOVES when this sh*t happens.

Sharpton absolutely loves this stuff.

When I lived upstate Sharpton caused soooo much trouble with the Tawana Brawley case--she lied and said she was raped by a group of white men--he called the District Attorney a racist and a rapist. He ruined the man's career and life. Turns out she had made up the whole story. Sharpton should really get his facts straight before ruining the lives of innocent people.

I'm not saying what happened was right, but Sharpton is sooo quick to get on board without finding out the facts.

I'm sure that's the case, especially if they were young/fairly new officers. How many officers actually pull the trigger while on the job!?! Very few.

so as the public we should sit back and let the cop do what ever then want b/c they have a thankless job?

it is our job as the public to question events that don't add up to us

the police work for us- we have the right to question everything they do!

It's easy to turn this into a color issue & that would suck. But we can't be naive about it either. Sharpton wouldn't be "loving it" if the cops didn't give him reason...time and time again.

It's kinda hard to ignore the thought that the outcome may have been different if this was in a "different part of town" with "different" suspects.

I think cops are afraid of "different" a lot of the times and while they may be acting out on a fear (or a stereotype), is it really justifiable? Chat Icon

Re: Groom Killed on Wedding Day

The truth is that we may never find out the TRUTH! We werent there, the media loves to blow things out, Sharpton is one to jump on things stating how they loved each other, what a great family yet,Which most likely is true but HE just met them!

We werent the cops there, we werent the 4 guys who were the 'victims' so we can sit here and point fingers but we ALL dont know what really happened!!

Its sad and unfortunate.

ETA: My DH is NYPD, a det in NAROTICS and he may love his job but he fears for his life everyday...so Maybe I do sympathize for the po's that were there....just crazy and sad.

The thing most people don't realize though is how quickly 41/50 shots go off. It takes seconds to empty your gun...

Also - we clearly do not have all the facts in this case, nor will we ever, because the media will spin it the way they want us to see it.

I feel bad for the victims, but I also feel very sorry for all of the cops involved. They didnt go into this job to kill people, they went into it to protect people. And even though I believe they were probably completely justified in their actions - they will still have to live with the fact that they killed someone.
