Sounds like she is jealous of you. I have a friend like that. She thinks that DH and I showboat a lot. But we dont at all. We are so not the showboat type. Seh didnt even come to my baby shower b/c I guess she thought it was to extravagant and b/c she didnt really have a big baby shower. Things are harder on her b/c she is a SAHM and her DH is the only financial provider of the home. She thinks that everything I do is overly extravagant. But I just suck it up and I really dont care what she says.
ETA: We are not best friends just friends. Which means I tolerate her.

It sounds like she is very jealous of you and your DD... and it obviously BOTHERS her that she never did these activities with her children so she is trying to downplay her shortcomings by telling you that you shouldn't do things with your DD... Tell her that maybe if she spent more time with her kids doing stuff she wouldnt be worrying about what you do with your DC....

People are so stupid sometimes.. One year birthday parties are extra special because there is so much that you, as a parent, and the child go through. It's not just for the child but for the parent too. It should be seen a celebration of a parenting accomplishment.

I have a few people like this in my life. All family, so I can't xactly cut them out. But I hear you, it gets frustrating to hear the same thing over and over about how "wrong" you are raising your child.
Hopefully whoever this person is will get the message by you not returning her calls.

Jealousy can make people say crappy things. Sorry you had to deal with it. I would distance myself from her. Relationships like that can be toxic
