Had a scare last night

I heard a strange sound come from DD's crib last night and when I checked on her - she was face down sprawled out on the mattress. DD has never slept on her belly - always on her side curled up so when I saw her like that - my heart literally jumped into my throat.

I did not sleep well since today is the 3 year anniversary of when my water broke from my amnio with DS so I knew I would already be a little on edge.

When did your DC start sleeping on their bellies? I picked DD up immediately last night to check on her and just held her for a few minutes (until my heart stopped slamming into my chest).

Re: Had a scare last night

Chat Icon Chat Icon That's scary, I know. As soon as DD started rolling back to belly, there was no stopping her from laying on her belly to sleep. I guess it was around 5.5 months. We have the Angelcare Monitor, which helps me sleep a little better.

DD has just started recently squirming to her side & sleeping...I'm sure the belly isn't too far behind. She's 7 months

Re: Had a scare last night

Logan only started doing this about a month ago at about 8 months.

I scared the bejesus out of me the first few days.

I would have the video monitor all the way up to listen to him breathing.

But he's been fine. Chat Icon

Probably since about 8 months, Ds only sleeps on his belly. I felt the same way as you when I first saw him sleeping on his tummy.

If it makes you feel better - once babies can flip around on their belly, they have a lot of control over their head and neck and can lift it up to breathe... Chat Icon

DD started sleeping on her belly around 8 months. I would put her down on her back, but within the hour she would be turned.
I still check on her to make sure she is breathing a couple of times a night, and she is a year and a half!

DD just started doing this-she's 6 months and it scares the daylights out of me. However, from what I understand, we have to get used to it...

Lily just started a little while ago, right around the 8 month mark. We used to give her a little blanket to keep her warm and comforted....but I got too nervous with all of her flipping and turning, so she no longer gets it.

OMG-how scary Donna! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Jack started to flip onto his belly at 4.5 months. I got the positioner - that stopped his flipped. About a month later he was squirming all over so I took the positioner out. He then kept flipping to his belly....and I kept flipping him back ALL NIGHT LONG. He would end up waking up and being VERY mad at me.

At exactly 6 months - I gave in bc I was utterly exhausted and needed sleep. That was when he started sleeping through the night.

Aw, how scary!! DD#2 started sleeping on her back very early--like 3 mos. I would say. I was a nervous wreck, but it was--and is--the only way she got comfortable. If you know she's able to roll well, that should be some relief...a little bit anyway. Chat Icon

Re: Had a scare last night

DS started rolling over onto his belly at night at about 3.5 months. We totally panicked at first, but found that there was no way to stop him. He's been fine!

DD will be fine too, you just have to get over the shock and your own internal fears. She'll be OK!

I remember this day 3 years ago Chat Icon Actually...I remember the night and the phone call that ripped my heart right out with fear. Chat Icon

You know I am no help with this since I had Lucas sleeping on his belly at 5 weeks but I can say that at her age it seems to be very normal for them to start rolling to that position. It just takes time for mommy and daddy to be okay with it. You might want to let her nap that way during the day so that you can watch her and see how she handles it...might give you peace of mind...plus let her learn how to handle the position.

Re: Had a scare last night

DS started rolling to his belly around 3 months. At first we would go roll him back over, but we found he slept so much better on his belly and just let him be. We felt comfortable that since he had the strength to get himself there, he also had the strength to roll back if needed. And I've got to tell you, I know it's not reccomended, but if my next child is as miserable of a sleeper as a baby as DS was, I will probably put them on their belly myself. It made a world of a difference for us.

DS started sleeping on his belly around 7 mths. I was a little leary at first, but I tried to remember that once they can rollover it is much safer.
