No but it reinforced my decision.
This, but I will add that it made me like Christie more than I had in the past. I think his response has been phenomenal and I might consider voting for him in the future.
I voted third party, but I totally agree about Christie

Not rethink. I am voting for Romney before and after this. However it has made me realize how important this election is for me. My hometown was underwater, houses on fire, Obama has not responded in the way I feel was warranted. The fact that Romney visited my hometown before the president of the united states, reinforces who has my vote on Tuesday!
I wasn't aware that Romney came to the East Coast after Sandy. I thought he was in Ohio?
Yea. Wouldn't this have been huge news?
Came to Brick, NJ. My parents met him. He actually was in Yardley PA today as well. As I live in yardley..
Interesting. No mention of him being anywhere in NJ on his calendar in the last 6 days. I'll say it again, this would have been huge news especially when Chris Christie said he didn't give a damn about him coming there.
ETA:Romney Calender
AGREED!!! I'm pretty sure this would have made bigger news...but non offense to "Brick, NJ" but if Romney was going to visit devasted areas, wouldn't he pick a more nationally known area like Hoboken or Seaside Heights???
In addition, to those who say the president should visit the badly devestated areas, why??? I have no idea why you would want or expect this? Why have your police and officals deal with security rather than help YOU get things back to normal.
I am literally floored by those who think our government hasn't done "enough"...ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! No matter what your party, all levels have done fantastic. 100% better than Katrina. And what more do you want done? I am so irrate over this.
I think it is sorta ironic that those "Romney" supporters are complaining of not enough help yet Romney's plan accounts for LESS government involvement. I'm sorry, its so contray to what you are saying.....
I am disgusted by those thinking not enough is being done....just disgusted.

I don't know the date and time. Can't even confirm it with my parents as they are still without power till Wednesday. My parents met him while they were in line for FEMA, that's just what my mom told me.

http://news.yahoo.com/hurricane-sandy-chris-christie-throwing-mitt-romney-under-101500309--election.html From Wednesday:
On Wednesday, Christie and Obama will inspect storm damage together in devastated New Jersey coastal areas. When Christie was asked Tuesday on Fox News whether Romney might make a similar appearance, a frustrated Christie veered from the GOP script:
I have no idea, nor am I the least bit concerned or interested. I've got a job to do here in New Jersey that's much bigger than presidential politics and I could care less about any of that stuff. I have a job to do. I've got 2.4 million people out of power. I've got devastation on the shore. I've got floods in the northern part of my state. If you think right now I give a damn about presidential politics then you don't know me. Is Christie abandoning Romney just days before the election, or is he merely putting the needs of his constituents ahead of politics?
According to Romney's BFF Chris Christie, Obama visited NJ, but not Romney.

Romney apparently bypassing chance to visit New Jersey
Posted 2 days, 6 hours ago.
By NCC Staff
Mitt Rommey will be making a highly publicized trip to Pennsylvania on Sunday. But will he travel just miles from his campaign appearance to see Hurricane Sandy storm damage?
Romney will hold a large rally in Morrisville, Pennsylvania, at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to the candidate’s website. Morrisville borders New Jersey and sits across the river from Trenton, where Governor Chris Christie holds court.
Whether Romney finds a way to visit neighboring New Jersey remains to be seen, but that seems unlikely based on his campaign schedule.
The GOP presidential hopeful is making a last-second push for votes in electoral-rich Pennsylvania. Morrisville is in an affluent part of Bucks County.
It’s also just minutes away from Interstate 195, a highway that runs straight into some of the heaviest storm damage from Hurricane Sandy, about 45 minutes away.

Ummm...he ordered more gas to our region, they set-up the FEMA centers, deployed national guards the day of the storm, etc.
As noted, all levels of government have been amazing. I said that originally.
What more in your heart do you think Romney would have done?????
Like I said...you want more from Obama (aka the government) yet you are going to support somebody/party that wants to cut-off and lessen our "reliance" on the government funded programs and such???? Extremely ironic.

It hasn't. At one point I joked that if Obama is sending fuel and it really happens I will vote for him for sure LOL.
These are human beings we are talking about. They CANNOT perform miracles, no one can. It's 6 days after a MAJOR STORM in a densely populated area that was not prepared to handle it. Why do we even think that 1 politician would solve all of our problems? They are not God.

we are different parties, but I totally respect this statement. You cannot expect 1 person to d miracles and to be upset is so silly

Sounds like perhaps he made an unannounced side trip to meet the people rather than a scheduled appearance that would have been more of a photo-op and if that's the case I find it admirable. No need to turn the disaster into a photo-op just to say he'd been there.

Re: Has the hurricane make you rethink who you will vote for?
I just want to clarify that "Brick, NJ" was devastated in the storm as well. A portion of Brick is in between Mantaloking and Seaside. It is also where FEMA has located one of their shelters. Brick borders Point Pleasant, Manasquan, Mantaloking AND Lavalette. Its a huge town that is an integral part of the Jersey Shore, so regardless if Romney went there or not, "Brick, NJ" is a legitimate place for a politician to tour in the wake of Sandy. The part of Brick by Seaside had large fires in addition to flooding.
I grew up in Point Pleasant, so you can take my word for it.

THIS!
It's like Obama should have waved his magic wand and had everything back in its place just like that.
Romney wants to close FEMA, because he thinks spending on emergency spending is immoral in times of deficit.
To answer the question, no it has not made me rethink who I will vote for. It had made my vote even more concrete.

I've read that Christie had to ask for everything that has been done for NJ, not that Obama was the one to know what had to be done. While I commend him for not delaying things that my state needed, I feel he should of known what to do, not been told. But maybe I'm wrong, maybe that's how government does things. I'm not one to say I know everything and anything about politics, and I'll be the first to tell you that I don't think Romney would have done much better. Honestly, I feel government as a whole is disappointing, and I feel I have never backed someone fully, and I'm saddened that with such destruction that I'm not proud of the msg our president has put out, and equally as that I'm not proud of what Romney has said either. And I'll also say my moms nuts, she may just have seen someone who looks like Romney, I have no idea, I assumed she was right bc he was in PA today haha.
Anyways I don't want to fight about politics. It's really not my thing, I usually stay out of this stuff on here. My original point was (that I clearly didn't get across) that this didn't change my vote, I was most likely wrong about Romney coming to Brick, but again that doesn't change my vote. I'm not voting for either person bc I believe either one is this great man about to change the world. I'm voting for Romney for my own reasons, and while I'm not 100% on his side, I lean more right. That's it, end of story for me :).

Thank you! Seriously I'm in tears that I'm being told brick wasn't good enough to go too. Tell my friends whose homes are not in the ocean and are ashes.. Brick is in shambles and it breaks my heart that people don't care bc we didn't have "jersey shore" to make it well known.. My moms fence that flew threw the air and broke her windows apparently wasn't tragic enough..

I think it is sorta ironic that those "Romney" supporters are complaining of not enough help yet Romney's plan accounts for LESS government involvement. I'm sorry, its so contray to what you are saying.....
I am disgusted by those thinking not enough is being done....just disgusted.
I'm sorry but what has Obama done that is fantastic during this hurricane?? Christie has done a fantastic job, but that's about it as far as I'm concerned.
THIS!
It's like Obama should have waved his magic wand and had everything back in its place just like that.
Romney wants to close FEMA, because he thinks spending on emergency spending is immoral in times of deficit.
To answer the question, no it has not made me rethink who I will vote for. It had made my vote even more concrete.
+1. This has just reinforced my decision to vote for Obama.
Honestly I don't understand how anyone think it's OK for them to get rid of FEMA. To date they have deposited millions of dollars directly into peoples accounts...people who have been affected by the storm and need $$ to rebuild their lives. I think Obama is doing a great job with this disaster. His response has been awesome.

Brick gets forgotten as part of the shore. I am a Boro girl, so I get it too. People always think of Point Beach. Brick got slammed during the storm. People might not also know that a lot of the people who live in the area year-round (as well as most of the area's working class people) live in Brick or Point Boro. I don't think she meant it like that, people who don't know the area might not have ever heard of the town. But I have! Much love to Brick!

Ok seriously??? You really thought thats what I said??? Reread because I clearly said 19 different ways that politicians would go to more "nationally" known areas, that is FACT.
I don't hate on any areas that are devasted but please read what I wrote. I never once said we "don't care"

Re: Has the hurricane make you rethink who you will vote for?
Politicians have been going to lots of places that were not nationally known before Sandy, kwim? I know that is not what you meant, but the quotes seemed diminutive. I just wanted to point out that Brick is right there in the mix, and before this week, I have never seen Bay Head, Mantaloking or Manasquan on the news. So its really not that far-fetched that a politician would make a visit to Brick.
No hard feelings! I don't think Romney was in Brick, but I do know that Chris Christie landed via helicopter in my high school's football field this week!

Re: Has the hurricane make you rethink who you will vote for?
This was the Romney quote on FEMA during the 2011 Republican debate:
"Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that's the right direction," the former Massachusetts governor said at a 2011 CNN Republican debate. "And if you can go even further, and send it back to the private sector, that's even better. Instead of thinking, in the federal budget, what we should cut, we should ask the opposite question, what should we keep?"
The moderator pressed him further for clarification on his stance & if it included disaster relief, this was what he said:
"We cannot—we cannot afford to do those things without jeopardizing the future for our kids. It is simply immoral, in my view, for us to continue to rack up larger and larger debts and pass them on to our kids, knowing full well that we'll all be dead and gone before it's paid off. It makes no sense at all."
NOW, he says: "I believe that FEMA plays a key role in working with states and localities to prepare for and respond to natural disasters. As president, I will ensure FEMA has the funding it needs to fulfill its mission, while directing maximum resources to the first responders who work tirelessly to help those in need, because states and localities are in the best position to get aid to the individuals and communities affected by natural disasters."
Essentially, he'll make sure FEMA is funded for its mission. But according to his previous statement, he doesn't agree with FEMA's mission. He thinks disaster relief should be privatized & should be a state responsibility. So, while NY would be "ok" because well, we have more state money to spend - what happens with Kansas? Missouri? Mississippi? Georgia?
As for the FEMA business loans, from the FEMA website:
SBA disaster loan rates can be as low as 1.688 percent for homeowners and renters, 4 percent for businesses, and 3 percent for Private Nonprofit Organizations (PNPs).

Re: Has the hurricane make you rethink who you will vote for?
in regards to obama vs romney on fema, I think there is this misconception that Obama putting fema in place will pay for all of this damage and devastation and thats not really the case. They are offering LOANS, loans that need to be paid back, with interest.
I have to say...I agree with Romney's quote about passing this debt down. I'm grateful for the help but I know that we will be paying for it for a long time and it will all just be tacked on to our already sky high debt which is definitely scary when I think of my son. We already struggle now with the rise of taxes etc...what will he have to deal with? it's scary!
I think it's important to make it clear that he never said he wants to "do away with fema" as many have said...he wants to put it in the hands of local govt as far as having them manage funds allocation etc.
eta: just saw this post on FB:
"All FEMA is offering small businesses 4% loans. That's all. There is no other offer. My wife spent 3 hours at the physical location. NO OTHER AID FOR SMALL BUSINESS THROUGH FEMA. PERIOD. I've already moved on to plan B."
commenter name removed- "If you were the Auto industry you would be bailed out for failed business practices but mother nature caused this problem and our Gov't won't help...Guess nothing is in it to help the little guy! Sorry *****, still believe you will turn this around and be better than ever!"
it just really brings it home that so many people are not really getting the assistance that they talk about on the news, in politics etc.

You have got to be kidding me with this. You are blatantly taking this out of context to be dramatic.

Has the hurricane make you rethink who you will vote for?
Some key points on how FEMA helps families were have suffered a natural or man made disaster:
FEMA provides three different types of assistance: Housing Either money to rent temporary housing, or a place to live in a government housing unit if there's nowhere to rent Money for home repairs to cover damages that aren't paid for by insurance Grant money to replace uninsured homes that are completely destroyed
Medical Assistance with medical treatment and prescriptions for disaster victims who suffer from medical conditions (whether they're related to the disaster or not) Dental bills Funeral expenses
Property Storage, transport, and in some cases, replacement of personal property Assistance with moving expenses Rebuilding and repair of public infrastructure, including roads and bridges, sewer lines and public buildings Debris removal

thank you for this...but my point is many are saying they aren't getting this. I just had a friend over from east rockaway to do laundry, charge up etc. He has been doing volunteer work all over and his neighborhood did not fare well...he has spoken to many people and tells me the general consensus is that people are saying they are not getting the assistance they need, they just today saw a fema truck in the neighborhood. I see the same in my newsfeed on FB and from friends of my own as well. What's going on? If so many people are complaining of NOT receiving assistance how do we keep track? how are they held accountable for a timely response in disaster since our tax $$ are paying for it? I'm genuinely curious bc I want to know why we see so much talk of relief efforts in the news and yet so many saying they see nothing of it.
