Funny how you ask this question and so many say no. I grew up in a poor neighborhood and lived poor on my own. Its nearly a given you WILL run out of gas. Heck I have picked up friends aplenty and friends have picked up me. Its part of life.
Telling to me of the people responding.
I've run out so many times that the guy at the gas station knew me on sight. "Hiya, $2 again, thanks"
I used to see how far I could get before I had to walk the rest.
Since I finally got on my feet and I'm now not just poor but 'struggling'  No I don't run out of gas. The sense of accomplishment to pay all my bills on time and still have food in the fridge, gas in the car, is pretty indescribable.
I may have no savings account and I have debt that keeps me living check to check but I have some fun still and enjoy the ability to spend money if I want.

yes! twice that I can remember. I think that was it. One day was on my way to work. I was going to be late so I left my car and ran about 30 blocks. Then I went with my friend during lunch to get gas. It was funny because there were two gas stations right there, but they didnt have anything for me to put the gas in and bring it to my car.  so embarrassing.
Another time was in high school.

Yes, but it wasn't my fault! My first car was my mom's hand-me-down Ford Taurus and the gas gage didn't work. But I knew how many miles I got on a full tank, so there were no issues. My mom used the car and told me she filled the tank. Low and behold, she didn't. I died on the highway and rolled to the Hunts Point exit on my way into the city. Thank God DH was with me, because it was 11:00 at night and I was dressed for a club.

Yes like 3 times in an old car I used to have in my 20s. The gas gauge was broken and nobody could ever fix it for me. I hated that car. Running out of gas is awful and now I am super paranoid about it and fill up when I am at a quarter tank.

Never. I have been on E a couple of times but every car I have ever had I know how much mileage I have left.
It is extremely bad for your car to be that low. You can blow your engine that way. Be careful!
