Re: Healthcare costs

My company insurance is in the $35 range per pay period this year... I think it's like $40 range next year.

but I jumped ship and when with DH's insurance which is even cheaper.

I heard of all the increases going on though.. but wow some of you pay insane amounts!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My coworker's fathers company did something kind of cool... I thought. They actually LOWERED insurance for MOST of the employees and raised it based on those making more than I THINK 100k a year. I forget the exact amount... but basically the higher paid workers are paying more and the lower paid workers are paying a little less (it's not like astronomically less but still less).

Re: Healthcare costs

I am very lucky. My dh's insurance doesn't cost a penny, even for a family plan. The copay is $10.

I would feel extremely uncomfortable about this whether I made less or more than $100K. Making less, I would feel awful that some of my coworkers were paying more to make the cost less for me. I would feel like a charity case. And if I were over the limit - I wouldn't be too happy about the set-up either.

It's just me and DH and I think we pay about $120/month or something.

That's how a lot of the bigger firms do their plans. It's tiered by salary. Both my and my DH's company does this.

Re: Healthcare costs

I pay nothing but I work for a city (of NY) agency. We get vision and dental coverage through our union, but if I don't see a union dentist (which I prefer not to because I like my dentist) so I pay out of pocket for DH and I on that.

Perscriptions the co-pay is no more than $30 if the medication is covered. When I was using diabetic meds, I was covered through healthcare (as opposed to the seperate perscription plan) so I paid nothing for that out of pocket.

DH on the other hand, before he went on my benefits was paying $100.00 per month and it was not so bad because it included almost everything- there were small co-pays here and there but nothing extravagant.

When we have children, it will cover them as well.
