Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby
I just bought this book, but am a little intimidated. Can you tell me some tried and true techniques from this book---I feel like it repeats too much--I feel like I a not getting much out of it.....

I have read it too but DS is only 5 wks old so I haven't really tested much of it out yet. I'm with you though, some of it almost even felt like it contradicted itself and confused me a little

Re: Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby
It totally was the way my daughter was....she couldn't make it 2 hours as a newborn....
Once she got on schedule, she'd take 2 REALLY good naps a day at home (yes, my life revolved around her napping at home, in her crib) and she was sleeping 12-14 hours a night!!!
She still sleeps 12-13 hrs a night most nights and takes 1 2 hour long nap, sometimes it's almost 3 hrs.
I'm now debating if I should wake DS up at the same time every day to get him on a predictable routine like she was on (which she fell into on her own).

I felt the same way when I read it. What I got from it were (I read this when DS was 1 1/2 mos old) he needs to be awake fro NO MORE than 2 hrs and I was more aware of sleepy signs (rubbing eyes, staring off, etc).
I didnt finish it (b/c it was repeating too much), but I did pick it up the other day (DS is now 6 1/2 mos). I feel like we're on track. He takes 3 naps (1 of which is along one).

ITA.
It really helped. They literally showed signs the day they were three months old. DS was "by the book". Three naps during the day and 6pm-6am.
I think their first schedule was: 6 am wake 7-8:30 nap 10:30-1 nap 3-3:35 nap 6 pm bed
They ran through the day a bit early as outlined in the book.

Re: Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby
This book made me a little crazy. I got so obsessed about DS taking naps that I spent all day long trying to get him to go down and keep him down for as long as the author recommended. I totally lost sight of the fact that DS was in a great mood and didn't appear to need as much sleep as the book said he would. He did fine on 3 30-45 minute naps; he didn't need 2 hour naps. Once I relaxed about that I was fine.
The main thing I did take from it was the idea of early bedtimes. DS goes down between 7:00 and 7:30 and it works really well. He'll be down before 7:00 tonight because he doesn't nap much on weekends.
So, there is some good information, but, as with everything else, take it with a grain of salt and stay in touch with your "mommy instincts."
