Re: Help.... I'm going to have a nervous breakdown (LONG)...
You sound like the most amazing and caring and loving mom.
it is SO hard to be a new mom- and then to deal with Alexa's reflux....its almost unimaginable how stressful this can all to be a new mom. I had a VERY hard time after both my babies for other reasons.....but all of us remember those scary first few weeks.
I am praying that you get some good answers at Yale.
They will help her and soon you will be advising other new moms about how it got easier for you too.

Re: Help.... I'm going to have a nervous breakdown (LONG)...
I am so sorry you're going through such a tough time. The first couple of weeks are so hard, and you're dealing with some extraordinary circumstances. I can't offer you too much more advice then theo ther ladies have, but I will say to keep trying the swing and bouncer. DS was also colic and had a hard time being put down. He did grow to love the swing first, and then later the bouncer. I also never had a sling, but I did use the Bjorn for months and months. I wouldn't run out and buy one, but try to borrow one from a friend and see how it goes. Please don't blame yourself. There is absolutely nothing you did to bring this on and you're are doing everything in your power to make your DC more ocmfortable. That makes you a pretty darn good mother in my eyes.

Re: Help.... I'm going to have a nervous breakdown (LONG)...
What a terrible introduction to motherhood The only thing that I can tell you is that the fact that you are so concerned and are there for your little girl like this means you are the furthest thing from a 'bad' mom!! You are already an amazing mom, and only 3 weeks into this.
Best of luck tomorrow, I hope it all goes well at Yale and they can give you some answers and relief

First I am so sorry you didn't get to ave the birth that you wanted-I know you were looking forward to it. Second-your baby is going to be fine! It is so scary having a newborn at home in the beginning. We don't know whats normal and whats not. Do you have a bouncy or swing? I would have her sleep in that if she will. Please keep us updated. Also as far as the reflux check out Marci-Kids.com-they have lots of great info. Zantac is like the 1st step in relux drugs-there is a lot more out there. Your ped. GI will be able to help

OMG, I just read this whole thing and feel so BAD for you. That is a horrible thing to go through and still be dealing with. You must be on the verge...No one would blame you!!!
Gosh I have no advice, just many hugs and prayers. I hope this gets resolved ASAP and you can move forward and this just becomes a nightmare in the past.
Hang in there

Re: Help.... I'm going to have a nervous breakdown (LONG)...
Oh Maria you are a wonderful mom. Many of the fears you are having are normal, even without the additional issues. I remember when G was about 3 weeks old I had a total breakdown from the lack of sleep and the stress of inconsistent BFing (he had an underdeveloped *suck* reflex and kept gagging while feeding). I came on here and did exactly what you did & the moms here were super-helpful. The fear that DC will stop breathing, what did I do wrong, why isn't it easier....all of these things are normal for a new mom.
As for her feeding and digestive issues, the most important thing is that you followed your instincts and discovered this issue early - so now treatment can begin. It took us almost a YEAR to discover that DS has a cow's milk protein allergy. (talk about thinking you are a bad mom....) Early detection and intervention is key. She may be hard to soothe at the moment because she is uncomfortable. It is not because of anything that you did or did not do, so please stop blaming yourself.
It is hard when things are not the way we expected, but the bottom line is you are a great mom for doing everything you can for your DD.

Re: Help.... I'm going to have a nervous breakdown (LONG)...
I have no advice but to tell you not to feel guilty...you are a great Mom. I think as parents alot of times we picture things one way and sometimes they just don't work out like that and it can be dissapointing...but that doesn't mean you failed as a parent. Please try to take care of yourself and many that your baby's appt has a good outcome today

Re: Help.... I'm going to have a nervous breakdown (LONG)...
The first 3 weeks are hard under the best circumstances. I can't even imagine how much tougher it is in your shoes.
You are a wonderful mom!! You didn't cause this and you're doing everything in your power to figure out what is wrong and help your baby... that's all we can do as moms.
