Re: Here's a good one...is anyone else planning on using cloth diapers?
Just to add one more thing to this idea---most babies do not have "solid" poop for a long time. My DS is going to be TWO soon and is just starting to--and he is perfectly healthy and normal.

They would never work in this house - every single one of Jack's poops are completely explosive!

ETA: not sure if you guys watch dirty jobs, but there is a company in CA that collects and washes cloth diapers (both infant AND adult) I though it was pretty cool.
Yes!!! I know I'm sick, but I loved that episode (DH couldn't stomach it!). I've heard that they have diaper services in NY. I would love to use cloth diapers, but DH is dead set against it.

I'm using them now with my newborn and I love them. Im so used to them that I hatr the papery feel of sposies now.
I'm in love with this new diaper called Grobaby. Have you seen it?
BTW, I have a colicky baby and a 2 1/2 year old and I can still cloth diaper -- it's really not that much work, I promise!

Those are cute. Certainly not the image of what I had in my mind. I can only go by the stories my mother told me of changing her baby brother in the 60's using the cloth diapers with the safety pins! I might actually give them a try next time around.
Just wanted to add for those that think you can dump baby poop in the toilet you'll be in for quite a suprise when you see the consistency of infant poop!

they actually say it's awesome if you EBF. you don't even have to rinse them
personally, I have cared for infants more times in my life than I can count (my siblings for starters) so I have a pretty good idea of what I am getting in to, poop wise. it's not all that pleasant no matter what you use I mean really, it's POOP!

Re: Here's a good one...is anyone else planning on using cloth diapers?
The cloth diapers that I am familiar with have a paper lining in them, so your baby does a whoopsie, and whatever liquids there are in the whoopsie are absorbed, but the solids stick to the paper liner, so you take the paper liner off and either throw it away or flush it, and you can throw the cloth diaper in the washing machine. They are really easy to use, and no more gross than disposable ones imo.

Yep, you can use a disposable liner with a solid fed baby, and EBF baby poops go straight in the wash where they wash off cleanly. Most people are unaware that with disposables you are supposed to dump poop into the toilet, too. Untreated human waste in landfills is illegal and an environmental disaster, but most people throw their baby's poop into the trash instead of the toilet.
There are so many misconceptions out there about cloth diapering, but it really is fun and easy and so much better for both your baby and the environment, so I encourage you to look into it, even if you only do it part-time.

Re: Here's a good one...is anyone else planning on using cloth diapers?
I cloth-diaper my twins and it is so easy. We use bumgenius 3.0 one size, so they grow with the baby. they are supposed to last until potty-training- we'll see how well they hold up. I just throw everything in the wash - pee diapers, poopy diapers, and it all rinses right off. Breast milk is completely water soluble. I'm not sure how it works with formula, but I don't think its all that different. We had to use 'sposies in the beginning because DC were really tiny and the bums wouldn't fit them, but now we use them exclusively. I use 'sposies every once in awhile if I get a little behind on the laudry. I have 22 diapers and wash them every other day. The other thing that is great about them is that you can control the absorbancy. During the day we use a thinner insert. Overnight, we use a thicker and a thiner insert - and we have never had a leak, ever. Sposies would always leak overnight. The also contain blowout poops SO well. In the disposable poops would wind up all over the babies but in the bum genius, all poop is contained. I think there are a lot of miisconceptions about cloth diapering. There are so many choices out there. The ones I use work just like a disposable.
ETA: you can see what they look like in my avatar.

They really are SUPER easy to use!!!!! Seriously, just throw them in the wash for 2 hours and then dry them and you are done. I hate the feel of sposies now and she looks SO cute with her "fluffy butt" Plus its cool to know we are helping the enviroment, cutting down on garbage and face it WAY Cheaper. Alexa is 2 months old and so far I've spent $120 for ALl her diapering so far!
Alexa in an Indian Pre-fold and Thirsties cover at 3 days old!

no... not for me at all. between working full-time and taking care of DS, i can barely keep my house and do my laundry as it is. adding a newborn into the mix is going to be crazy enough without having to wash her diapers!

Re: Here's a good one...is anyone else planning on using cloth diapers?
I am in the process of switching to cloth, DS is almost 15 months but I figure its never too late! I highly recommend the diaper trial from Jilliansdrawers.com, they send you a set of brand new diapers to try for 21 days and then you send them back and they credit you back the money less $10 (so it only really costs $10)---they way I can try a bunch of kinds and see what works best. I am also using the new GroBaby. JilliansDrawers

What do you do with a dirty cloth diaper while you are out? Do you have to find a place to rinse it and then keep it in your diaper bag until you get home?

You put it in a wet bag and when you get home you empty it into your dry pail. Super easy!!

Re: Here's a good one...is anyone else planning on using cloth diapers?
I told DH I want to try cloth this time around...but since I have gone through 2 with disposables already...I don't know if it will last! I am going to get a few and at least give it a shot though!
