here's a situation, tell me how you'd feel.

Friday evening, local supermarket.

On line @ deli counter to get some cold cuts.

Approximately 5 people ahead of you.

You have waited for 35 minutes to get your order, which ended up being wrong.

3 people were working the deli counter, chit-chatting to one another as they are slicing, and chatting between taking orders - the conversation rarely seems to stop, and seems to be hindering the speed of the task at hand.

Thoughts?

Um, well, I would go to one of the employees and ask them to please get a move on, in the nicest way and if they didn't oblige, I would get the manager of the store or of the deli and ask for their help. I certanly would not wait for someone to notice me and help me. No way!

Similar situation happened to us once. Close to either 4th of July or Memorial Day. Except there were about 10 people and one of the people behind the counter out of the 3 decided it was a good time to have a bag of chips and stand there. DH mentioned something on the way out to customer service.

I would have left and not waited. There are so many deli's in my area that I would not wait 35 minutes nevermind bc the people are socializing and not working.

10 people online waiting, 3 people behind the counter. Sorry, can't edit with iPhone.

Oh I've totally experienced that exact situation numerous times. Any chance you were at the Best Yet in West Islip? I hold the guy behind the counter personally liable for sucking the life out of my days when I have to get cold cuts. I usually huff and puff, loudly sigh, tap my toes...all of that..then I'm just rude when I place my order and tell him I'm not interested in his trip to Costa Rica and then I vow in my head to call the store manager and I never do. So basically, I get myself all worked up for nothing. I have not gone since I've gotten pregnant b/c I don't trust myself to not have a hormonal breakdown and tell him to STFU and slice.

I would have been so pi ssed. I would have left way before 35 mins. I think after I would have gotten a manager.

I would have left and gone to Buttercup Dairy! The lines there are amazing, and they never take a break to chat!

I rarely buy deli, but it seems like when I do, this is a fairly typical occurance. Probably the main reason I just avoid it altogether, or go at odd hours when I know it's not going to be busy.

We you in stop and shop on portion. I never get my cold cuts there anymore because they never slice them the way I ask, and I hear them talk crap about every other employee not there.

I would leave, finish my shopping...and perhaps speak with a manager on the way out.

And then I'd send my husband for the colt cuts when I got home!Chat Icon

I would never wait 35 minutes at the deli. If the line wasn't moving along, I would. This is why I don't go to the deli counter in the supermarket, it always seems to take forever even without the chit chat. Plus delis are an easy way to support the local economy.

Re: here's a situation, tell me how you'd feel.

Since the wait was that long and my order was wrong anyway .. I'd auction it off to the highest bidder in line (so I'd make a profit) and then get my deli meat somewhere else!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

In all honesty, I'd probably say something because that sounds ridiculous!! Chat Icon

Re: here's a situation, tell me how you'd feel.

to make a point I might leave my full wagon of food at the courtesy counter after I spoke to the manager and told him/her about it and that I wouldn't be back.
