He's getting up earlier and earlier - Help needed please

And I'm not sure why. He has always gotten 11 hours of sleep at night.

His bedtime was always 6:30 for the first 18 months of his life waking at 5:30am.

He got sick and we had to do the nebulizer so he was going to bed closer to 8 and waking up at 7.

Now that he's better he goes to bed at 7:30 (but won't really fall asleep until at least 8)

He naps from 1-3 (on the rare occasion 3:30)

He was getting up at 6:30 which I can deal with. The last week it's just getting earlier and earlier. Today it was 5:40. I cannot deal with him waking at 5:30 again.

What should I do?
Put him in the crib at 7:15 instead of 7:30? Maybe he's overtired when going to sleep? That's the only thing I can think of!

ALL ADVICE WELCOME!

Re: He's getting up earlier and earlier - Help needed please

I would do two things--put him in earlier at 7:15 or 7:00

and then when Chris does this I have a rule I dont pick him up before 6 am--i let him cry

also--there is a time change this weekend so that might throw a monkey wrench in this whole process

I try to not take him out before a certain time. When he wakes at 6:15 I try to keep him in until 6:30 -- the kid screams like a lunatic until he is out of that crib and I just end up giving in pretty much because I can't get back to sleep while it's going on.

I know - the time change is going to suck! Don't they know that moms can't afford to lose an hour of sleep! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Turn off the monitor and let him hang out in his crib for a while.

Put a toy or two in there after he falls asleep so when he wakes in the morning he has something to do.

Ale wakes early but she usually entertains herself for at least a half hour in the morning.

The sound is off on the monitor but his room is next to ours so it's right there.

I put a ton of things in the crib....he tosses them out within seconds of waking!

My DS has been doing this for about a week.....he used to get up at 7-7:30 and not is been close to 6 every day.

He naps about the same amount as your DS and goes to bed around the same time. I am running out of ideas!! He is tired, but when I put him down earlier, he still gets up the same time.

I am hoping the time change will put him back on my schedule Chat Icon

We have this problem too. But to make it worse, there's no trapping DS! Chat Icon He climbs out of the crib, has mastered child door locks and climbs right into my bed. If it wasn't so frustrating it would be really funny. Fortunately, he will usually fall back alseep for a little while if he either lays in bed with us (which I really don't like) or if I go lay in bed with him for a little while.

I say put him down at 7:30 (later the better so he won't wake that early), thats when Todd Jr goes down and then he wakes at 7-7:30am. I wouldn't put any toys in his crib, that will just make him stay up longer and they shouldn't think bedtime is playtime. I guess you will have to work on putting him down earlier for a nap so he won't sleep close to his bed time and mess things up. I think its that 3pm nap he takes thats messing up his schedule! Re: He's getting up earlier and earlier - Help needed please

Derek's wake up time always changes.....it was between 7-8, then between 6-7, for a while it was between 5-6....thankfully now its between 6-7.

I am not sure what caused all these changes...

He wakes up at 3 - doesn't go down at 3.

He doesn't play with the toys in his crib at night either...I watch him in the monitor, he just kind of tosses and turns

Re: He's getting up earlier and earlier - Help needed please

No help but we are having similar issues. DS is sleeping less and less.

He used to do 8pm-7am. And that was GREAT! Now it's 8pm-9:30pm sometimes 10pm. Waking up by 6-6:30am (or 5:17am like last week!Chat Icon ).

Honestly, if DS wakes up at 5:30-6am. I leave him in bed until 7am. DH is getting ready by 6:15am and he will give him books in his crib.

Re: He's getting up earlier and earlier - Help needed please

I don't know...we are having the same problem with Kaydyn. She was going to bed around 11pm and sleeping until 11:30am.

Now lately she's been going in around 10-10:30pm and waking up between 7:30-8:30am. We don't know why...she wasn't sick...I don't think she's teething.

We have the rule also that we won't take her out before 8am. We need her to get 10 hours of sleep or she is a crank all day.

Maybe try putting him in a little earlier and see if he still sleeps until the same time.

Not sure then......I would just keep trying to put him down later so he sleeps later, thats what the problem is right? he's waking to early?

I just wanted to send u some Chat Icon bc my son is the same exact way..he will be 19 months this month. He take one nap a day..usually 2 hrs..goes in about 12..1....Point of my story is that he usually goes to sleep by 7...or bw 7 and 8, and NO MATTER what, he wakes up early....i've even push his bedtime to 9 one nite...he WOKE UP EARLIER!!!!!!! On good mornings, he sleeps til 6:30...but, for the most part, he has been getting up at 6....sometimes 5:45...it's horrible, but i feel like there is no changing this...I am convinced they are HUMAN ALARM CLOCKS!!!!!!!!!! Good luck!! Just thought u would feel better to know that u are NOT alone!!!

Re: He's getting up earlier and earlier - Help needed please

Gavin was doing this for a while too and has seemed to be starting up again.....I do not take him out of his crib until 7:00 or later.
He's been throwing his blankie out of the crib which makes him wail.....I am trying to show him how to reach between the bars and grab it, but he's not gotten it yet.

And daylight savings may help or harm the cause.....and honestly, going to bed earllier doesn' help much for me.....it seems to be a phase from my experience.....Chat Icon
