Hospital Stay with DC#2

the other post got me thinking….

when you had your second (or third etc.) did DH stay in the hospital every night with you?

with DD1 DH was of course there the whole time but now that we are having our second we have DD to worry about. She can and will stay with my mom but I'm sure 2-4 nights will be a long time for her to be away from home and out of routine.

but then again she will still go to daycare

what did you do?

I haven't had my second yet but DH will go home to him. DH didn't stay with me when I had DS. I don't want DS to feel abandoned by us for the new baby. He already shows signs of apprehension of his new sibling.

Since and our DD will be nearly 2 years apart I would prefer if DH doesn't stay at the hospital. Trying to figure out different ways to prepare DD for a younger sibling. If her older DD and DS even hugs me she goes in attack mode so I'm definitely not going to mess up her routine by separating her from DH.

Haven't had dd2 yeti but dh will def go home to be with dd. I don't want to mess her up or separate her anymore than we have to.

I'm in the hospital now. My DH went homelast night. I understand that we have another child to worry about and to he honest I enjoyed having the night to myself. I need it rest. In the days he brings DD to my dad's, then dad brings her here when he comes to visit. Yesterday DD was here from 12-630 then DH took her home

Dh went home with baby number two AND with our first. He came during the day to visit.

I am having ds2 in May. When I had ds1 my dh only stayed the first night and really I think because by the time I got to my room it was 2:00am and it just made more sense to just stay plus I had a cs so I didnt even get out of bed yet he was there to help give me the baby to nurse.

Ds2 maybe he will stay the 1st night again but honestly if baby and I are feeling ok he doesn't need to stay. My dsq is extremely close and comfortable at my parents house so he wouldnt be upset to stay there 1 night.

My husband stayed with me every night for 4 nights. We had my mom stay at our house with dd so she had some normalcy being home. Dh would go home for a few hours during the day to see her and get things done at home that he needed to.

No. He went home to take care of DS1. He also only stayed over some of the nights with my first hospital stay. He was really uncomfortable in the hospital pull out bed. I wasn't going to make him stay if he could actually get some sleep at home. Plus, it helped to have him well rested both times so he could help out at night and not be exhausted.

I will not have DH stay in the hospital with me overnight, he will be at home with DS.

ETA he went home with our first too, I told him I rather him be comfortable in his own bed.

With our first child, DH didn't stay all 3 night. He stayed 2 and I sent him home the 3rd night to rest and get everything ready at home. With #2, DS will sleep at my parents house, most likely, for the entire time, regardless of whether DH is with me or not. I want DH to be able to run back and forth for me and not have to worry about DS. DS loves sleeping at my parents so he'll love it.

I only have one and DH went home.

I didn't see the point of him sleeping there.

I would just be sleeping. Baby was in the nursery.

My room had nowhere for him to sleep anyway. It was a private room- just one bed. no couch.
Just a chair.

My DH was barely at the hospital the second time around, lol. I was so tired and felt like it was more important he be with our older DD anyway.

DH needs his sleep.
I sent him home after each delivery.
He also worked immediately after the baby (he took vacation 2 weeks later).
I kept baby with me & it was fine, peaceful, the two of us.

With DD#1 my DH would come during the day then go home and take care of our pets and would come back in the evening but would leave at night. The hospital didn't allow him to stay overnight and even if they did he wouldn't have because we have pets.

For #2, DH will come as much as possible with and without DD but will not be staying overnight even if the hospital allows it.

DH went home both nights with DD2, but DD1 slept at my parents house that night. DD2 was born a little after 8pm, so by the time they got us to a post partum room and we settled in it was the middle of the night.

I delivered DD at Good Sam and DH was with me the first night in the labor room but the second night after I delivered, he went home. Good Sam actually didn't allow overnights after birth. I'm assuming it will be the same when I have #2. DH will come home to be with DD other than when I will be delivering and she will be at my parents.

My dh never stayed with me overnight for any of our 4 dc. I always sent db to the nursery every night anyway so there was no reason for him to stay and sleep in a chair. Plus we live only a few blocks from the hospital.

DH couldn't stay with me with the first bc they didn't allow and he was working so he could be off when I came home. He will stay with the girls this time. If he's working my mom will stay with them.

With our first my DH stayed the entire time from check in till check out 2 nights later(on the aweful pullout chair). The baby never left our room and DH basically did everything (picked up/changed etc) other then feed the baby because I was wrecked after labor and couldn't move well at all. With this one I hope to only be at the hospital 1 night and leave the next day if possible. I will have my mother or MIL stay with DS for the one night and bring him to and from the hospital so that DH can stay with me again to help. I'm hoping this labor/delivery is a bit easier on my body then my first but don't have high hopes

With my first, DH stayed with me every night at the hospital-- he wanted to be there & I wanted him there. But this time he will definitely have to be home to put ds to bed in the evening (ds is so inflexible when it comes to his routine that we can't do it any other way) & then probably when ds wakes up in the morning, they will come to the hospital to be with us during the day.
