How far away do your parents live?

And how does that affect your relationship with them

My parents live all the way across the country from us. It stinks because we hardly ever get to see them (maybe twice a year), but we definitely cherish the time we do spend together a lot. We used to fight a lot when I saw them all the time, but now we get along a lot better. It'll get really hard if/when DH and I have a baby - I grew up living close to all of my grandparents and wouldn't trade that for anything, so it makes me sad to think that my kids may not have that, and I know my parents would hate it, too.

my parents FOR NOW- are alternating living in CT a few days a week and living in NY a few days a week- SO sometimes no distance at all and sometimes an hour

eventually it will be about an hour (in NY) and then a flight to FL (they will have a place in both states)


Dhs parents- about 10-15 minutes away depending on the lights we catch.

we have a very close relationship with both sets of parents

My parent's live about 40 mins away even longer with traffic.

But in Sept or hopefully August they are moving 15 mins away I can't wait

My parents live two exits away on the SS parkway, which is about a 10 minute drive.

My MIL lives about 20-30 minutes away and my FIL is pretty close to my parents.

I love that my parents are so close. It makes things easy for me.

my parents are about a 10 minute drive. my il's are about a half hour drive, too far for one of those "we're in the neighborhood, can we stop by" visits.

My parents live 45-60 minutes away depending on traffic. I live in Queens and they live in West Islip.

My dad is about 25 minutes away, my ILs are about 5.

We are very close to all our parents. Probably see ILs more but its not the distance is the family (there is always a b-day or something to get together for - my family appreciates time apart as well as together )

I grew up TX with grandparents in OH; now I am in VA with our parents in TX and FL. It would be better if we were located closer but we'll do our best, just like my parents did.

My Mom lives about 15-20 minutes away. I love that I can go see her and she comes here anytime!

my parents are still in LI and we moved to NC last year...so its rough not seeing them all the time, but we talk every day on the phone and once my father retires they are planning on moving down here as well

I am in NC...my mom lives in georgia (about a 4 hour car ride) , my dad is in Long Island (a 12 hour car ride)

I miss being near my dad alot

ETA: my IL's also live in Charlotte about 15-20 minutes away from us....

Both our parents live about 30 minutes away. IL's in Smithtown and my parents in east Rockaway. We are in the middle of them both, distance wise.

with no traffic on the LIE (hahaha!!!) my dad is 90 minutes from me (I live in NJ, he lives in Pt. Jeff).

My mother lives in South Florida

My IL's live in Queens

doesn't affect our relationships at all

My parents will live about 1.5 miles from us and MIL lives about 15-20 minutes away.

My parents live less than 10 min away and my ILs live in Vegas.

I like that my parents are close b/c I can just drop by if I want to.

My Parents are about a 10 minute drive (with traffic..I HATE Larkfield Road).
My inlaws are next door.
It's GREAT and we all get along really well thankfully.

We used to live a mile away from my mom and 2 miles away from my dad... but we recently moved to FL and now we're a 2 1/2 hour plane ride away!

It's wierd not seeing them all the time... but we are getting used to it. We have DH's parents down here most of the time (they have a house here and in NY) and tons of other family so i'm not too homesick. I know when we have kids it will be harder for them... and us.

My mom is planning to move down in the next year or two and my dad is already planning trips down through 2008!

Right now, my parents are 10-15 mins away from us by car.

Sometime this fall, they will be moving to their house in NC full time and selling their house here.

my Dad lives in Flordia- it doesn't effect our relationship at all

I see him often and I always have a warm place to go to in the winter

My brother also lives there and my sister lives in Maryland

I plan on moving OOS myself- then I will be in driving distance

My entire family is in Miami. Most of the time I am OK with it however, when there are family gatherings and whatnot I do get a little sad that I can't attend.

my parents are 2 hours away from us. its tough sometimes... especially, like you said, when we eventually have kids. i grew up seeing my grandparents all the time... and i want my kids to have the same thing. we are still close and i call them whenever i want to talk to them, but its hard not being able to do little things like go shopping with my mom on a random day (without planning weeks ahead!) or hang out by the pool with my dad...
my ILs right now are about 20 minutes away, but are moving in a few weeks and they will be about 4 hours away. i'm not looking forward to that either... its been nice having at least ONE set of parents close to us!


so, yeah, i see a lot of traveling in our future and thank God we have a guest bedroom because i nkow they'll be staying with us a lot too!

Until July 30th, my parents live 2 miles from us. I love having them so close because my mom & I are best friends. As of July, they are moving to their brand new home in Maine...It is only a 50 minute flight but 6 hour drive. It is going to be difficult for us as we are so close. Once we have kids, it is going to get quire difficult on all ends.

My inlaws live 20 minutes away.

They are one hour away and at times I think it makes it more special - we get together in PA and in NY - but at times, I just wish I could walk over to my mom's house and lay on the couch!

I know it can be worse!

My parents live in NY, it's about a 2hr plane ride.
My ILs live 10 mins away from us.
