My parents are an hour away, but with traffic AKA the Belt Pkwy 2 hrs.
IL's are 5 minutes, with traffic AKA 86th St 15 minutes. 
I will be moving back out to LI next spring, so it will be easier. The thing that is hard about living 1-2 hours is that you are still expected to visit a lot. I spent 5 hours going to and from parents house for Fathers Day.

I think there's a HUGE difference between walking distance and 15 minutes away .
My parents and ILs are walking distance to each other but about 5 miles from us. I like having them so close and yet not too close.
I see my parents daily during the week (I work out of a home office in their house), and we see my ILs maybe once a week or less (depends on the week).

My parents live about 2 miles away (walking distance I guess you could say!!!).
Dh parents live a long flight away.........

my dad lives 7 minutes away and my inlaws live about 45 minutes away (thank goodness )

8 hours away, and its hard, especially this summer when I work hourly and have no time off. I feel guilty because we see our ILs so much more. They only live 4 hours away. But we try to do things with both sets of parents together and meet in NY since its halfway for my parents and DH and I. DEFINITELY when we finish grad school we want to move closer to both families, maybe in between. I know some people who could care less about being close to family. But that isn't us. These past few years have been hard because we want to go to all family events, but its so tiring with all the driving.

My parents are about 20 minutes away and my in-laws are about 30 minutes away. I see both sets of parents at least once a week.

My parents live a 22 hour plane flight away (with a short layover).
My ILs live 10 mins away.
I hate living so far away and I miss my family A LOT.
