How involved are grandparents DC's life?
How involved are your ILs or parents?
How often do they see your DC?

Re: How involved are grandparents DC's life?
VERY involved. Im Italian (no that that matters, but sort of does)my grandparents are/were a HUGE part of our growing up. HUGE. I loved it. We had sunday dinners, weekend sleepovers, fishing trips. Oh it was awesome. My mom is super invovled with ds. Sometimes too much, but thats another story she sees him a few times a week. Mil is an RN, works over night shifts. She sees him a few times a month. She takes him overnight whenever she has a weekend off. Im all for it. We moved back to ny after ds was born, mostly so he can have thst relationship with his grandparents. Im 35, my gram is 84 in a nursing home. We still go weekly to see her. She is the bomb!

Re: How involved are grandparents DC's life?
IL's watch DD full time so needless to say they are very involved. They are amazing and we are so grateful!
My parents live in NY and we're in FL but they are SO involved and come down at least 5x/year and we go up to NY 2x/year so they never go longer than 2 months without seeing DD. We also skype a few times a week and DD definitely knows who they are! They wouldn't have it any other way.

Re: How involved are grandparents DC's life?
MIL watches the kids 4 days a week and my mom and sister watch them 1 day + holidays. I'd say they are very involved and love interacting with them.

Re: How involved are grandparents DC's life?
My mom watches DD while I'm at work so she has her 9-10 hours a day during the weekday and when my dad comes home from work, he hangs out with DD too.
FIL sees DD every few months. He has a standing invitation to see her whenever he wants but he pretty much lives his own life and comes around for big events and the occasional visit.

Re: How involved are grandparents DC's life?
My ILs live around the block and my MIL watches DD. They are very involved (obviously) and see her every day.
My mother is definitely involved. We talk all the time but she lives further away and works FT so she is usually limited to seeing DD on weekends and holidays only . Kind of makes me sad sometimes but it is what it is.
My father lives in FL and has only seen DD twice. We talk every so often but he is not very involved.

My parents are extremely involved. My dad is DS1's best friend
My FIL passed away way before I met DH and his mother is not well so unfortunately she doesnt have much of a relationship with our kids. To be honest, she doesnt even remember/know who they are

Re: How involved are grandparents DC's life?
Very involved. We live close to my ILs (and next week we'll be living with them for 3 months while we have our house renovated) and my parents make it a point to see him every weekend (we're about 1 1/2 hrs away adn they both work FT).

Re: How involved are grandparents DC's life?
Not very. Mine live far away, OOS, so they try, but there are limits to their relationship.
My ILs live pretty close, but they chose not to be so involved. We see them about once a month, and they pay some attention to him, but I wish it was a little more.
It makes me sad, but what can you do? I was close with all my grandparents, and I wish DS had that.

Re: How involved are grandparents DC's life?
ILs watch DS two days a week, so very involved. They also live 2 blocks away, so that helps.
We visit my parents every other Sunday. They live in Commack, we are in Levittown. It's not as often as I would like but it's hard to get out there more often with jobs and such.

Re: How involved are grandparents DC's life?
MIL watches DS 1 day a week and is great w/ him. FIL doesn't like being around the grandkids so much, so we mostly just see him at holidays.
My mother sees DS all the time (probably 2-3 times a week?) but is sick herself so doesn't really watch him.
My dad lives upstate but visits once a month to see DS.

Re: How involved are grandparents DC's life?
My parents watch DS 3x per week while I work and DS sees his paternal grandpa a few times per year, maybe 6 (?). Yes, he lives local.

He never goes more than 7-10 days without seeing them. More often most of the time. He loves his gramma, papa and nonni!

Re: How involved are grandparents DC's life?
My parents are very involved. My mom did watch her full time from 2months-6 months and now she watches her 1 day/week. We go there every Sunday, plus we drop by a couple times a week. DD knows that is Grandma and PaPa. MIL - has seen DD exactly 7 times in 13 months. It is our choosing, but they don't really make an effort - but that is fine with me - DD is better off.

My parents are very involved. They live OOS but skype with us often and we either go there once a month or they come here.
FIL/MIL are no longer a part of our lives.

Re: How involved are grandparents DC's life?
my parents are very involved. My IL's are not as much but thats b/c they are older and have health issues so its hard for them to come to us alot, so we have to got to them. They nnwould babysit for us though anytime (as long as we go there). They adore and love our kids and I think if they were younger, would be involved too though

Re: How involved are grandparents DC's life?
My Dad: sees her once a year minimum (he's a few states away). Uses Skype and views her videos often. We talk daily and he's pretty up to date on AJ stuff. Sends her gifts often. Saw her Aug 08, June 09, July 10, Will see her April 11. But its about a week each time. AJ misses him when he leaves. Knocks on the door he stays in and says "Gan-pa?" its too cute. She is his only granddaughter and second grandchild.
His Mother: Has seen her now 5 times in her two and a half years of life. AJ is still nervous by her but plays with her some. Never calls about AJ, never asks, gets a gift for bday and xmas usually. Makes no plans to see her or us to come to them. Big trip planned in Oct/Nov but she doesn't want to go. She is luke warm about AJ. It is her only grandchild.
My stepmother - meh, annoying, adores her though, acts like she's hers (annoys me)
His stepfather - spooky, crazy, weird, obesses about everything, thinks she's 'cool' but small and stupid. (his words).
My mother/ His Father out of the picture.
