Re: How involved are grandparents DC's life?
My mother is very involved and pretty much lives for DS. They love each other so much. My father lives overseas but we Skype a lot and I've taken DS to visit him once.
MIL unfortunately passed away before DS was born FIL is out of the picture....he was the dad that not only divorced MIL but his kids as well. Only came to see DS once when he was 3 weeks old for an hour (and spent the whole hour paying more attention to the TV than to his grandson). We haven't seen/heard from him in about 9.5 months.

Re: How involved are grandparents DC's life?
In October we abruptly moved home to LI after being in N Virginia for 6 years mostly We wanted our children to have a relationship with our family. DH got a job offer in NYC and 2 weeks later we were home! We had nowhere to live and knew we could never afford a house on one paycheck if we rented. So we are living with my parents. Hopefully we will have a place of our own next year. My parents see DS almost everyday. They love it. We love the fact that they insist we go out at least one time a week for alone time.
MIL lives in Hawaii and has come in twice to see DS (6 months old). When she does she stays for long periods of time and it becomes a bit much. She has a lot of advice to give
