How many ear infections did your dc have before tubes were discussed?
Ds has basically had an ear infection since November....3 rounds of antiobiotics and the ear is still filled with fluid. Doc said give it a day or two to see if this antibiotic works, and if not off we go to ENT. He is almost 11 months old, and I'm not sure what the ENT will say. We went through something similar with ds 1 and we waited it out and he didn't get anymore infections after that one terrible year we had with him.
Any experiences you'd like to share, I'd be very interested in hearing what led up to tubes for your dc.....thanks!!!

Re: How many ear infections did your dc have before tubes were discussed?
When DS was 11-17 months he had a bunch of ear infections and ped sent us to an ent who didnt recomend tubes at that time bc his hearing was fine and didnt have fluid despite all the infections he had..ten he didnt have any in july and august but then from sep-dec he had basically a double ear infection that wouldnt clear up the entire time and we went back to the ent who recomended the tubes at that time.

I would see the ENT regardless- an ear infection since November is concerning.

Re: How many ear infections did your dc have before tubes were discussed?
DD got her first ear infection at 6 months old.. from there she had 8 more in 5 months... we waited actually to see if they would stop when ear infection "Season" was over but they continued so at 11 months old she went under and got tubes in her ears.
a week later we went to sesame place and it was so nice not to have her in pain or worry about another ear infection.
fast forward a year and a month later... went for her 2 year well visit, noticed she had fluid in her left ear, and noticed that the tube was no longer in her drum, but floating around.
saw the ENT, said to come back every 3 months (kind of forgot about the appt) in the last 2 months she has had 1 ear drum rupter and 2 ear infections...
usually 6 infections in 4 months (at least that is how my ENT does it)
good luck.. tubes are great, but not always 100%

Re: How many ear infections did your dc have before tubes were discussed?
My ENT said 6 ear infections within the year or more than 20 days of being sick in a year (sick enough to stay home from school or activities). My DS would get an infection and it always responded to medication and all the fluid would drain but he would be lethargic, and dehydrated for almost a week after he got the tell tale infection fever. We got tubes in Dec and I have seen a huge improvement- gaining more weight, happier, talking more, eating better. He even got a cold that we didn't need antibiotics for- the first time in 2 1/2 years.

My son started his ear infections oct 17th, saw the ent when he was on his 3rd, dr said if he gets 4 in less than 2 months to put in tubes...he did, and had his surgery on Dec 22nd (he was almost 9 months old)
Good luck

ETA: the ent said tubes fall out in 6 months to a year, and being that my son is so young, he may need to have another round put in

not all tubes will fall out... i know people who had tubes in until they were 4-5 years old... my DD still has her right tube in and its been almost 2 years... her left one fell out but her right one is still hanging on wrong.
most will fall out in 2+ years....

Re: How many ear infections did your dc have before tubes were discussed?
DS was 14 mths when he got tubes. From the time he was 8mth-12 mths her got 12 ear infections. We waited until he was 14 mths hoping they would get better as the weather got warmer but he wsa still prone to them. We got the T-shaped tubes that stay in and do not fall out. The ENT suggested it based on his age and anatomy. DS isturning 4 and still has them. We will probably get them removed sometime this year. We go to ENT appt 2 times a year to check his tubes.
