8k with star. 1800 sq ft hi ranch half acre Suffolk.
We were just reassessed for our in ground pool they are going up $300
We were looking to trade up- three village area- but the houses we were looking at were all at least $15k in taxes. We are putting on an extension instead of moving
wow i thought pools had a bigger effect!

We pay @ 7100 with star in Queens--so on top of that we also pay income tax which I would guess is @ 10k a year....
doesn't everyone pay income tax?

You pay an additional tax to the city if you are a resident. When I moved out of Queens in 2005 I got either $200 more a check or $200 more a month, I don't remember. It's in addition to federal and state.

how much are your taxes on your house?
Our primary residence in eastern Suffolk is $6200 with star. 2500 sq ft no garage or pool on a 1/4 acre. We grieve every other year and often win.
Our tiny 1bedroom apartment in manhattan is $7400!
There is a lot of new construction in our LI town and the taxes are 10k plus. I would never pay that.

We live in a townhouse and our taxes are over $7K. Every house we've looked at is on less than 1/3 of an acre of property and taxes range from $10K - $15K We live in Rockland County, NY.

I am in NC, so I won't answer this one, LOL.....
My ExH and I built a house in NC and I remember doing a double-take when we got our tax assessment for the first year. $1200 for the whole year. And believe it or not, they actually went DOWN the following year. Such a crazy difference from up here!

That blows my mind. I never thought Queens taxes had gotten that high.
Any additions to the home raise the taxes, ours is a dormed house so that is why. Also when a home is sold in NYC the taxes jump then as well.
$7100 in and of itself is okay but when you tack on NYC income tax it becomes prohibitive.
A lot of my neighbors have cash businesses so they arent hit with the high NYC income tax those that dont often run to LI, financially these days it makes sense.

We are listing our house for sale this year so the numbers wont matter soon for us but we are in Baldwin Harbor in a small 2 bedroom Bungalow and w/o STAR, taxes are a little over $8K; with STAR and DHs exemptions, we pay around $6500/yr. I am not looking forward to the higher taxes we will have to pay when we move to our new home .
