We just sold otherwise we probably would've grieved again this year. We were successful a couple years ago.

I thought around $7K but DH just told me its more like $9K. Ugh... can't wait to get off this island.

Wow, I cannot believe these numbers. DH and I would have never been able to survive on LI. We are in FL, and our taxes last yr were $2950 for a 1900 sq ft house.

wow thanks for all the responses! .....unfortunately it just put the final nail in the coffin that we are 'stuck' in our house.....all because of taxes!! unless we move off the island which i am terrified to do!

Our taxes in Baldwin Harbor are about 11K (they were higher but we grieved). 3bdrm, 2.5bath colonial. 60x100 property.
We are moving to FL and while the taxes are definitely better, they are still a factor. Our taxes this year on our new home will be $5800 but we expect that to increase once the homes are appraised next year since prices have gone up at least $30K for the same home in just the last 5 months. Lot is maybe 60x150, house is 3200 sqft.

Under $6k a year with Star. It's one of the reasons we bought this house. But it's a small house on a small lot.
If we were to move to a bigger house, I need to brace myself for my taxes doubling.

My jaw is literally dropping.
I am not necessarily comfortable sharing the exact amount of taxes we pay; however, the number is on the higher end of the responses listed here and our house and property are on the way smaller end of the responses listed here.

Wow these numbers astound me!! We were under the impression that taxes on LI were LESS than NJ because of the STAR program but it seems that is not the case at all. Even in Essex County, NJ which supposedly has the highest taxes in NJ the taxes are similar to what you guys are paying on LI WITH the STAR program. We even kept looking in LI way in the back of our heads because of this but WOW....crazy. I really need to get out of the entire NY Metro area

how much are your taxes on your house?
With STAR, we pay just over $9300, which includes Village taxes as well. When we bought the house about 7 yrs ago, we paid about $7500.
Taxes suck!
