Ugh, such a sore subject for me.. NONE. I'll be lucky if he can swing a day off. He works in the hospital so he likely won't take time off when I'm there. I doubt he'll be able to take a day off, but if we are lucky he may have a sympathetic attending who will let him come home early or something.
Is your DH a resident or fellow?
Any attending will let your DH have the day off!
DH is hoping that he can get part of the week off just for delivery and then he'll take the following week off for vacation. We are due at the end of one rotation so he'll be taking one week off for the first rotation and then another week off a few weeks into his next rotation.
DH won't even ask if he has paternity leave! He said even if he has it, he won't use it because it will make him look bad to his colleagues. I really don't get it.
Resident! He hates even taking a sick day because he feels like it makes him look bad. I do not understand it one bit!
I'm due right in the middle of a rotation one that includes two weeks of nights, blah.
I'm hoping that he just as a nice attending that makes him leave. He's a great great husband, but really won't take a day off unless he's forced to.
Is your husband a resident or fellow?
DH is a fellow.
He has a good relationship with the other fellows so he's certain they won't mind covering a case or two on the day of and after delivery. Then he can take a week of vacation off. He is going to swap call so he isn't on call for a month after the baby is born.
DH is a Resident! I understand where you girls are coming from!

Re: How much time is your DH taking off when the baby is born?
DH will take a week. He manages an IT department and everything would really fall apart without him. I'm guessing a large chunk of that week he's off will be devoted to answering emails and having his work number rerouted to our house phone so I guess ou can't even count that as a week!

2 weeks. His paternity leave is unpaid, but he can use sick days. He has like 80 of those

I hope my DH will even be able to make it to the delivery!
Just had to respond to this. The only FULL day that DH took off was the day DD was born! He was back at work the next day and just took breaks in the middle to come see us. I was actually nervous about when I went into labor BUT my water broke at 3AM, so he wasnt at work!

Hopefully a week. He is self employed so I know he will be around after that, but it is one of his busiest times of the year, so we'll see.

Re: How much time is your DH taking off when the baby is born?
The first time around he took a week off. Which was great for me!
This baby is coming in May and we're praying he has a new job by then. So probably just a few days if he could

Re: How much time is your DH taking off when the baby is born?
maybe 2 weeks but it all depends on when i have her. His job usually makes him and everyone take off for 2 weeks for christmas and new years; they sometimes let some people work and sometimes they dont. if he cant work he has to use his time bank hours to cover those days off and i cant see them being ok with him taking an additonal 2 weeks off. So i am hoping i go on time or close to those 2 weeks.

DS #1 was born when DH was a fourth yr resident. He was on research so he didn't have patients.
With this one, he will probably have patients to round on. I don't mind if he leaves for an hour or two in the morning. His hospital is literally connected to the hospital I'm delivering at.

Re: How much time is your DH taking off when the baby is born?
good question. I told him to bank his days so if the baby gets sick and Im not on Maternity leave- he can take off since I'll have to borrow days for my maternity leave... having said that Im sure he will take a week off to be with us

DH's company gives 2 paid weeks so I am thrilled to have him for at least that long!
