HSG scheduled for next week, and the receptionist told me...
No from now until after it's done? That's 9 days from now! Not fair, they finally let me stop taking the Pill so I'll actually want to do it again for the first time in months and now I'm not allowed? Poor DH! (Poor me!)
I'm sure it's been asked and answered a bunch lately, but since you ladies are the ones I "know" I'd appreciate hearing from you what to expect. Does it hurt? Will I need DH to drive me back home? Do they put you in a machine (like a CAT scan) or a chair (like at the dentist)? How long does the whole thing take?
Thanks!

Re: HSG scheduled for next week, and the receptionist told me...
I think it depends on the person. For me I hope to never have to do that again it was quite painful (but quick pain) that lasted very shortly. It was on a flat xray table with my legs on the table if I remember correctly and they had me turn side to other side while taking pictures. the injection lasted a few seconds and it was over. I was fine afterward. i took Alleve before so i was fine to go shopping after
Good Luck to you.

Re: HSG scheduled for next week, and the receptionist told me...
i had mine done a few weeks ago. I took advil too late ( right before the procedure). It did hurt quite a bit, but was quick. I would not compare it to cramps though, for me it was as if someone was blowing fire inside me. but it lasted a few mins, totally tolerable. If you take advil in advance, you might not feel anything at all. GL!

Re: HSG scheduled for next week, and the receptionist told me...
Thanks for the insights. The RE actually gave me an instruction sheet telling me to take 2 Advils two hours before the procedure and 2 more one hour before. So that's 4 Advils in my system when the procedure starts. Hopefully that will stop all the fiery pain I'm in for...

Re: HSG scheduled for next week, and the receptionist told me...
I had one a few months ago. I think it's different for everyone. The reason they don't want you to BD is to make sure you aren't PG when it's done. For me, the only part that hurt was when they injected the dye. It was painful cramping (worse than period) but only for like 30 seconds. Before and after that, it was fine not at all painful. I did take advil before which I think may have helped. Good luck! I hope it all goes well for you!

Same here. I drove myself and was fine. They warned me about "leaking" the fluids afterwards and I do remember feeling a "whoosh" while walking to my car. That was weird. I have also heard of people who get PG after the test since it clears out all of the "cobwebs" in there. Good luck!!

Re: HSG scheduled for next week, and the receptionist told me...
It definitely is different for everyone. They laid me on a bed and had an X-Ray machine over me and that is what captured the images. I only had pain while they injected the dye, it was very painful cramps, but it only lasted about a minute. DH came with me and drove us home, but I think I could have managed the drive back myself. An important tip, bring a pad/pantyliners. The nurse will give you this HUGE diaper looking pad, so to be a little bit more comfy bring your own. Even if you are not bleeding wear one, I didn't and it was a huge mistake.
Good luck!!!

Re: HSG scheduled for next week, and the receptionist told me...
I had mine back in March..and I agree with PP it depends on everyone's personal experience but I too hope to not have to do one again, the painful part for me was when they injected the dye, the dye went through to my left tube no problem but it took a while to go through the right one..so that dye being injected for a little bit longer was painful but once it was done I felt fine and even went to the gym that night.
Good Luck, once it is done you will be so relieved.

Re: HSG scheduled for next week, and the receptionist told me...
I could not have driven. I had no pain during the procedure, but horrible pain for about an hour afterwards. Honestly, it was bad... being a BTDT... it was worse than early labor (and they didn't find anything).

Re: HSG scheduled for next week, and the receptionist told me...
I found it to be an annoying kind of discomfort, but not painful at all. I didn't have any blockages though, I've heard that can make a difference. The worst part was having to lay there with the speculum still inserted while the radiologist left the room to go check if the results came out. I took the advil beforehand. I went by myself and drove myself home.

Re: HSG scheduled for next week, and the receptionist told me...
Thanks for the insights everyone. I'm kind of nervous but I'm more excited that things are finally moving in the right direction. It was very hard for me emotionally when they put me on the Pill 2 months ago. But now I'm on track to start Clomid (and maybe in IUI?) the cycle after this one... which will probably be in 2011 if I don't take Provera but hey, we're moving forward instead of backward now!
