Re: Husband staying at the hospital

Actually, with my first... having my husband stay over at the hospital never crossed our minds! (I wonder if it was even an option?) With #2 he had to be home to keep things somewhat normal for 1, and now with #3... I WANT to be alone! LOL

I'm not sure either way, so we're going to play it by ear. We'll see how we feel. And since there's no guarantee I will have a private room, he may have no choice but to go home.

Re: Husband staying at the hospital

My DH stayed with me both times. Our hospital is fantastic, they provide an extra bed, pillow and blankets for the dads! It was so great to have him there!

With DD1 he didn't stay. He stayed until about 10ish each night and made sure everything was ready. With this pregnancy he'll be home with DD 1. I'm delivering at stony brook and the rooms are like hotels. Kind've looking forward to the peace and quiet.

DH will stay if he can. He wants to come to every appointment, know everything and be there every step. Its kind of cute...until I am in a mood then its clingy. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Husband staying at the hospital

DH didn't stay the first time and won't be staying this time either. I don't see a reason for him to stay. Why make him sleep on a chair or a little couch and be so uncomfortable. You have all the nurses to help you.

DH didn't stay with #1 except maybe the last night (had a c-section). He stayed during my labor and was pretty uncomfortable. We don't live that far from the hospital and I didn't feel the need to ask him to stay.

I delivered in a brand new hospital with private rooms. I told DH he could leave if he wanted but once he saw the baby, he never left my side (all 3 nights). Honestly I was so happy to have him there. He was so helpful.

Ditto.

I delivered at Stony Brook & all the rooms are private. He would go home very early in the morning to shower & feed the cat. I really loved having him there with us. To me, It made it that more special.

Re: Husband staying at the hospital

At LIJ, they couldnt stay. I wanted him too, but since the rooms arent private they have to leave by midnight.

If you'd rather be alone, I would tell him you want your rest.

I had a private room at Good Sam but he still had to leave at 10:00pm. I was fine with it. I was able to sleep and he was able to go home and sleep, shower, take care of a few things. even if we had the option (we did while I was being induced and he didn't stay) he still would have gone home. Just no need IMO.

I was also at Good Sam so he didn't stay, but like many others I wouldn't have wanted him to. He had too many things to do at home & needed his rest. It will be the same this time - especially since we have ds now!

For now I want him to rest at home but I may be too attached at that point.

Nah...

When I had DS, DH was still working (I delivered Sunday evening), so he went home to get some sleep.

They let him out early the next day (one of those jobs that you can NOT just "take days off").

Some peace & quiet & bonding time between me & DS was priceless.

Re: Husband staying at the hospital

With DD he stayed. There was a chair that folded out into a bed for him.

This time? Probably not because he'll stay with DD.

Re: Husband staying at the hospital

my DH didn't stay. i thought he was going to but when i ended up on hospital bedrest prior to delivery i got used to being there by myself. my delivery was so rough that there was no point in him staying, there was nowhere to sleep and we live walking distance and the baby was in the NICU so not with me anyway. so there was no point.

We had a private room at Good Sam and he slept there for 7 nights with me, on a pull out chair. 3 days before, 4 after, I went into pre term labor.

Re: Husband staying at the hospital

I was induced on a Thursday night and they had no rooms available. DH was in and out for a few hours until I got a room. He finally left for the night at about 1 am (we live 3 minutes from the hospital). He came back around 8 that morning and was in and out all day.

Once the baby was born (6pm via csection) he waited til I was in a room and then left for the night. I don't even remember seeing him after the section because I was so out of it (the epi didn't fully numb me so they gave me demerol too Chat Icon )

He stayed until about 9 on the next few nights and came off and on throughout the day.

The only time I wished he was there was the night after I had DD...I had refused pain meds all day cause I thought I was fine and I woke up at around 2am in excrutiating pain. I wished I had someone to help me (the nurses don't exactly rush to your bedside)

So, long story short Chat Icon- he didn't stay over at all.

ETA: He won't stay this time either- #1 the hospital doesn't allow it, #2 I'm not sure what we are doing with DD1 while I'm in the hospital and he is running back and forth. I may have my mom take her during the day/evening and DH have her home with him at night Chat Icon

Actually, I'd rather have DD with me for the night than DH...I'm going to miss her Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Husband staying at the hospital

I got lucky and had a private room. There was a chair that pulled out into a twin size bed.... DH stayed in that.

I was grateful he was able to stay over! So happy... it was a big help having him there. I had a C section and was EBFing so it was hard to hold the baby, shift the baby etc. He also got hands on with changing the diapers (I didn't change a single diaper during my hospital stay).

We kept the baby in the room for the majority of the time. Mainly because I was EBFing and she would eat ALL THE TIME!

There was no sleep to be had during my stay at the hospital... and that had nothing to do with DH... I think he got more sleep than I did! Aside from the constant nursing going on... the nurses were literally in and out of my room ALL NIGHT LONG!! I mean 3am, 5am, etc. IDK why they did that.... but the interruptions were SO constant that I couldn't wait to get the heck out of therel I checked myself out a day early because of it ... I got more sleep in the first days I was home than I did in the hospital. And now I don't get any sleep either.
