I got written up today for the first time UPDATE 8/3 page 2
IN MY LIFE 
For being 5 min. late. But nevermind that I never leave at 5pm (ontime), last week stayed til 730pm on my birthday...
oh just to add, i am always on time and my bosses are never in at 830. But of course it is a catch-22 bc they are never here to see me on time, only to see me the one time i am late!
Added on 8/2:
OK Now this is the second day this has happened - after I got written up, I have been early every day. Is anyone else in this office? NO! The other 2 ladies that I work with came in at 8:48 and 9:00. The receptionist (who is always on time) and I are like "Guess the rules don't apply to them". 
I am so annoyed that I get in trouble and used as a scapegoat. Of course the boss is not here and on vacation, so she did not see them come in late 2 days in a row. I really feel like emailing her...but I do not want to look whiney

i wouldn't sign it - i would contest it and cite the examples laid out here

Ugh...that is just not right!! Would they want you to just get up and leave at 5pm whether they need you or not?? They really should give a 5 minute room for error...your clock could be different then theirs...no?

No...I admit I was late...I will be an adult and admit that. But given that I am 99% on time, I dont see why. And I defended myself too, I admitted that I was late (they can see the parking lot from where they sit) but that I am on time all the other times only no one is here to see that! (Except the receptionist).

Yup..I know. I am working on "moving on down the road"  Every day. (Sigh). ANd yes you are right, I have had to do it to other people it feels weird to have it done to me!
When I was in Starbucks today, I SERIOUSLY considered asking them for an app.

When you work overtime is it "casual" overtime or do you get paid for it? If I got written up for something like this I would be more concerned that they are trying to build a case against me or something like that.
A write-up for a 5 minute tardy seems a bit unreasonable in the professional/management type environment.
I agree, seems like they are nit-picky so they can start building a file .

I am an exempt employee so I don't get OT. I dont mind working OT if it is necessary. But true, very very nitpicky.

5 min that is ridiculous. They are looking to build a file. One time being 5 min late is I could understand 5 min every single day in the morning and extended lunches but one time being 5 min late is absurb. I definately would not sign that write up and fight it. I would be so mad

i don't work in the business world so i don't understand...what is the point of "building a file"? and what happens to the file? is it because they want to fire a person but need cause?
