Re: I got written up today for the first time
That is a total red flag. Update your resume and start looking for a new job. The bastards at my old company pulled that crap all the time. If they fire you they don't have to pay unemployment. You don't work for NBTY by chance do you?

Re: I got written up today for the first time
Quitting is not an option..... I am literally sending out resumes every day, and interviewing a few times a week (early AM, lunchtime squeezed in or after work). They could be keeping a file on me because I happen to know some very juicy stuff they would not want anyone in let's just say a legal position to find out.

For being 5 min. late. But nevermind that I never leave at 5pm (ontime), last week stayed til 730pm on my birthday...

Yes but I didn't sign it yet. I am going to write a response.

Re: I got written up today for the first time UPDATE
I hate to say this but you probably already know what they are doing since you are in HR! I would start looking for a new position, seems like they are laying the groundwork!

Under the NJ Whistleblower law, you have protection to rat them out. They can't retaliate!

Re: I got written up today for the first time UPDATE
Ok now I am REALLY getting P'od.
My receptionist (reports to me) had to leave 1/2 an hour early yesterday because she was not feeling well. She is always on time. She informed me at 430 and I said no problem, feel better. She was clearly not well.
This morning I get an e-mail from my bosses (who are on vacation) that their assistant WHO IS 15 MIN LATE EVERYDAY informed them that the receptionist left early and did not tell HER
So I responded and said "Yes, I was aware, she asked me if it was ok and I approved it".
Now, I want to write a seperate email. I do not like the finger pointing, but how is it, that someone who is late every day, has the nerve to "tattle" on someone for leaving 30 min early?
And yet I get written up for 5 minutes late?
Please help me draft this..I have a few ideas but I am too angry right now.

it should be something along the lines of an email relating to policy coming in late/leaving early and what the protocol is. Since you ARE the HR chick, righ? maybe something like- over the past week I've noticed a bunch of discrepencies regarding company's policy on lateness... and then make a list of instances- •yours (being written up after being late only once and staying after hours w/o any recognition- explain to them this is bad for morale and employee retention, and as HR professional want to point that out). •your receptionist- say you approved her leaving early- but ask what policy is- should YOU have sent them a quick email, even though they were on vacation, letting them know? I wouldn't bring up that other tattler- let that be- you don't want to rat HER out.

Here's what my email would say:
Ring Ring.
"Hello, how can I help you?"
"Yes, EEOC, I'd like to report a few inconsistencies I've witnessed in the workplace"

Re: I got written up today for the first time UPDATE 8/3 page 2
I'm so frustrated for you I know you said quitting/walking our with your middle fingers up in the air isn't an option, but since you're sending out resumes left and right and going on a plethora of interviews, I'd just LEAVE! You're bound to get something by the end of the month.... is it really worth all of the hassle???

Re: I got written up today for the first time UPDATE 8/3 page 2
you need to write that memo, Jen... and basically say- so if she was sick and they were out- how long are you supposed to keep her there feeling ill? Just so you know what the policy is. idiots.

I would probably add that "several staff members are repeatedly late & are not written up. I have begun a log of those dates if you need to see them."
I'm thinking the word log will make them fully aware LOG.

I'd probably do this too. And if you do leave, give the log to your receptionist, it sounds like she might need it down the road, too.
