Re: I just read that the Huntington Station Toys R Us is closing
I got the scoop. Just came from mall. Went to children's place, sign was up that the location was closing January 21! I actually almost cried! So I asked the employees why... Company didnt renew lease. Mall will undergo 18 months expansion construction. Expanding 70,000 square feet. High end stores coming! Tiffany, louis viutton to name a few! The workers were about to cry to me :(

I am confused. Are you talking about Walt Whitman or the mall with TRU in it?
Please fill me in!!!

Children's Place was going out also??or did you see the sign around the TRU area? Why would stores in the mall be closing also?
I have to say, I do like the idea of the bigger mall because I take DS there just to get out of the house and within 10 min's we walked the entire mall.

Sorry, i should have been more specific.... Walt Whitman mall is expanding. Children's place in WW mall is closing in a fee weeks. Apparently the TRU center next store is not renewing leases bc of something to do with this. At least that is what the ladies at store said.

No prob and thank you!
I am pretty excited about this...other then of course people being out of a job, but with the mall expansion it's going to create a ton of jobs down the line I am sure.
I just hope that BBB and Bed Bath stay there, I am at those stores every week!

Re: I just read that the Huntington Station Toys R Us is closing
Yes WWM IS expanding but they are NOT moving into the next door shopping center. And more high end stores are coming in but some not as fancy as Tiffany are too.
Rumor is book revue might go into the Barnes and Noble spot.
Sad about TRU... it was a crappy store but we loved to go to it. Was great having PetSmart so close... it is gonna suck having to go across town for those stores

A high end mall? that stinks. WW is already pretty snooty. I wish it was going be more family friendly and have stores like Old Navy.

I'm not so disappointed about the TRU closing. I'm another one who prefers not to shop there for Toys. The store always seems so messy.
I am VERY upset though about the B&N going out I live right down the block from this shopping center and I couldn't wait for DD to be old enough to go there for the story time. I love book stores and this one was a favorite for me and DH. We go there for coffee.
Rumor has it that the mall i going to be expanding. Not sure exactly where or how but DH has his business right in that area so he has a little "in" with the landlords. He is going to do a little researching. I'll be sure to share any news I find out.
Barnes and Nobles is going out?!?! Noooooo.
That is my sanctuary when the kids go to bed when we visit my parents in Huntington. That shopping center is always bustling. Why ruin a good thing?!?!
Does anyone know what stores are replacing the existing tenants?

Re: I just read that the Huntington Station Toys R Us is closing
I would love a target to go in there, I hate going all the way to Commack and I can't deal with going down 110 to get to Farmingdale.
Book Revue would be smart to go into the B&N spot because parking in the village is a nightmare.
I guess we shall see

Even though I HATE TRU and BRU's customer service and return policies, I LOVE the fact they're bringing TRU to Commack (my hometown!)

Re: I just read that the Huntington Station Toys R Us is closing
At out PTA meeting we heard that lulu lemon, Northface, Tiffany, Burberry and container store will be coming to the mall. Howeve , you will not be able to get into the mall from these stores.
They also told us that TRU was closing a year from now but I guess they did not do that great this holiday season and decided to go sooner....
I guess targe twill be getting my business now...

I was just in that Barnes and Noble and thought it was odd that mostly the entire store was 40% off. Makes sense now.

Re: I just read that the Huntington Station Toys R Us is closing
I just heard about TRU today. My mom saw the shelving were for sale.
They already have started doing something to the parking lot between. I guess breaking ground?
Commack is not too much further, so I can't complain.
I did hear that Book Revue couldn't renew their lease in Hunt Village (the owner wanted too much)

The WW Mall is going to be a big building of nothing. Nobody can spend money in those high end stores in this economy. I'd rather drive 1/2 hour to Smithhaven or Roosevelt.

I dont agree. Loads of people in surrounding areas there have $$, even in this economy. That mall was bustling over the holidays.

I agree too. I grew up in CSH and for years people have been going all the way to Americana or RF for some stores that have been missing over in WW. I'm sure the addition of some stores would be a welcome. I think RF does have a lot more "higher" end stores too and there is a strong pull in that area for similar stores (i.e. LuLu lemon, Janie and Jack, Juicy). I know the Saks in WW does really well.

ITA with you. I love Walt Whitman. I will not go to Roosevelt field or smith haven.. To me living in.dh they are both too far, big and always crowded. WW is never crowded and I shop in the stores there- Bloomingdales, Sacks, Lord and Taylor and Macy's. I love the Cirella's in Sacks and the Bloomingdales restaurant for lunch.

I always thought WW Mall was a subpar mall. I'm glad to hear it is expanding and improving.
I am upset at TRU and Barnes and Nobles closing next door though.

Re: I just read that the Huntington Station Toys R Us is closing
All the stores I could possibly need are in WW. Or next door by BBB. I always joke that if I can't get at WW then I dont need it. I also like that WW is not a hangout spot for the teenagers. And since it is a little smaller any parking spot is a good one. I am not one of people who can shop in a store like Burberry or LV. I will window shop. Lol. I just hope At this point that construction and traffic aren't a huge problem. I live very close to the mall.
