Re: I need help please re: possiblr reflux/gas/colic???
No I haven't had his diaper tested, but I plan to bring one in with me to the appt on friday.
I think it is a relux/gas thing which are feeding off each other.
If the dr thinks meds will help - at this point I am willing to try them - we are both in misery

ds was the same way, except he never spit up. He had silent reflux. But he would scream in pain before his bottle was even done. It was awful to watch.
he also had pooping problems. Was very constipated. He'd scream because of it. His GI doctor said that constipation often makes the reflux worse.
Once he went on zantac (saw a difference in 24 hours) and switched to Alimentum... my happy baby returned. It was a WORLD of difference.
I wasn't a fan of meds either, but my son clearly needed them. So you have to weigh the options... would you rather that he's in pain or on the meds? Keep in mind that when they're not on meds for reflux, it can actually cause more damage to their esophagus.
ETA: oh and one more thing- for my son, cereal made him more constipated. So that could be irritating the reflux as well. Hang in there!!!!!
This is Dominick exactly. I will definitely try the meds on Friday. thanks

Re: I need help please re: possiblr reflux/gas/colic???
Hey there.. John was like a new baby after a week on Zantac. I know the idea of meds s*cks but if it will help his pain and your sanity....it's worth it....and John didn't have any side affects and they are totally safe.
We put it in his first and last bottle of the day. He was weened at 6 months and hasn't had a problem since
good luck sweetie!!

My 15 week old is the same way. He was on Prevacid and then we switched to Zantac. He STILL had reflux and gas, even with the medicine. We switched formula to Alimentum and he has been a new baby! He still has reflux but it isn't anything like it was before!

DD had reflux and constipation. She tested positive for milk allergy at a GI doctor. Similac Alimentum and Zantac helped a lot.

The gastro that my daughter went to had her on an over the counter Nexium???) and something else that I could get over the counter. It was an adult medication that was in a very low dosage.

***UPDATE****
Well, my little meatball at 2 mos old is already 13.6lbs
The PED agreed that he has reflux and prescribed AXID. He wanted me to increase the ceral, but I told him my hesitation becuase of the gas/constipation, so he wants to try the enfamil AR now and see how it goes. Please it works out... I am going on day #2 of straight screaming This kid really knows how to make me feel like a crapppy mother
Hopefully the axid kicks in asap for you and everything else settles down! Hope the little man feels better. keep us updated.

Ugh Dina! I am so sorry that little Dominick is suffering with reflux. Reilly had it bad and would be like a fountain after every bottle until she was 13 months old. the only saving grace was that she did not scream/cry out. She was put on Axid too and I gave it to her for 1 month to see if it worked. Well, it did not stop the projectile spit up so I stopped using it. I pray that the meds are just what baby D needs!!

Re: I need help please re: possiblr reflux/gas/colic???****UPDATED****
Just wanted to add my experience with my 5.5 mth old twin boys. From the moment they were born they both screamed all day every day, spit up every bottle, and arched their backs so bad that sometimes I couldnt hold them. Needless to say it turned out to be reflux.
We were literally at the end of our rope...tried every drug and every formula and here is what worked for us.
1) Prevacid (You have to ask your doc about it since its like the last thing that they try)
2) Similac Alimentum (Even though they do not have a dairy allergy this is a very sensitive formula and def made a difference with their spit up)
3) They slept in the Fisher Price sleep and play rocker every single night because it had a nice incline!
Hope that helps! I know how hard it is but hand in there it will get better.

DS is on Enfamil Nutramigen -- he is doing SO much better on it!!
My daughter had the same issues. She was on meds and I saw a big difference when we put her on Alimentium. It is a hypoallergenic formula and it is easier to break down. My insurance company paid for it. I would really ask your dr. about it. I remember how fustrating and heartbreaking it was to watch Carsyn go through it I was feeding her every two hours just to give her only 2 ounces at a time. Then all of a sudeen with the med combo and the change of formula it got a lot better. There was a point when I couldn't find the right nipple and she wasn't getting enough formula and it made her really gassy also.
