When I heard on Friday that 1500 people were killed my heart sank. What is going over there? I do not trust Putin as far as I can throw him.

I totally agree...Putin always has some sort of alternative plan...I really don't trust him either

this whole scenario is horrible.... you KNOW putin has some alterior motive (I suspect he wants to recapture many former segments of the USSR  ... especially the ones with warm water ports and growing economies like Georgia )
The largest problem is that russia is too much of a big boy for the international community to reprimand. They supply way too much fuel to the EU...
it's a super sticky situation, and the poor people of Georgia will end up suffering

Its way over 1500 now and sadly no matter what number they report its probably a lot higher
I heard on the news With a bomb to one small building killed over 60 people

OMG... i have no words to comfort you. i cannot even begin to fathom what you and your family are going through.
I have seen it on the news and can only imagine that is much worse than is shown.

UPDATE: my mother just called me , it's 5 am aug.11. They can hear the explosions inside Tbilisi, the capital city. But they don't know what exactly is going on. They are packing up and will try to flee to a different part of Georgia, where it's a little "safer" for now. Airport is closed and they bombed purt of it's runway. So if anyone wants to get out they will have to go through Turkey or Armenia .

The conflict, which started in South Ossetia last week, was raging in other parts of Georgia as well, including another breakaway area, Abkhazia, located in northwestern Georgia.
Georgia began withdrawing its soldiers from Tskhinvali early Sunday, but troops remained south of the capital inside South Ossetia. Troops and their tanks lined the road leading from Tskhinvali back to the positions they held before Thursday.
Alexander Lomaia, secretary of Georgia's National Security Council, said the withdrawal was a show of goodwill, aimed at encouraging Russia to accept a cease-fire.
But Russia insisted Georgia had no plans to stop its military actions, and Moscow bombed military targets in Tbilisi. A CNN crew was at a Georgian airbase when Russia bombed the airfield 500 yards away.

for your family. I hope everyone gets out safely.
My family and DH's family are from (and in) Israel. Our parents have been involved in several wars- and have lived in fear of attacks and bombs.
I can't imagine the fear that you and your family have now, but my prayers are with you.
