I know that feeling. Over the weekend we were at a block party and I was trying to keep my eye on TJ but had Derek with me as well and no DH. I turned my head for 1 second and didnt see TJ anymore. I walked up and down the block and asked everyone if they saw him. I knew pretty much everyone so I wasn't worried about someone taking him...I was afraid I was going to find him face down in someone's pool in the backyard Chat Icon After a few minutes when my friends started to see me get really anxious everyone pitched in and it turned out he went in a neighbors backyard to play with a dump truck he saw.

I find it so hard to go to public places by myself anymore with 2 kids. I feel like my mind is all over the place trying to keep an eye on both of them Chat Icon

It can happen in the blink of an eye. My Mom and I are magnets for lost kids at the mall. It happens everyday...And I wonder why some people think the harnesses for kids are dumb..JMO...No flames...

I am glad she was found safe and sound...

i seriously can't even imagine. things like that scare me so much. some people think im a little nutty with how close i keep my daughter to me. im touching her or have my eye on her and her within like 2 feet of me at all times because i am just so petrified of something like that. thank god everyone is ok.

my dad lost me when i was 2.5. it was a different time back then, and he left me in the car sleeping while he went into the store right next to the car. had his eye on me at all times except for about 10 seconds when he paid---and in that time I got out of the car and started walking down northern blvd. when he looked back, car door was open and i was gone. i can't imagine what he went through in the few minutes it took to find me. he didn't tell my mom the story for about 5 years.

Hearing you describe the mother put knots in my stomach. I am tearing up and wasn't even there to witness it. Thank God for the happy ending, I Chat Icon none of us ever have to experience the terror and panic that poor woman must have felt.

Re: I witnessed something so upsetting

My BIGGEST fear. Sometimes I feel like I am way overprotective and neurotic, but stories like this are why I am the way I am!

i saw something similar recently. it was at carters store in carle place...a mother all of a sudden started screaming out for her daughter, then the grandmother was screaming for her too. no answer. the cashier immediately locks the door so no one can come in or go out. for 5 mins the yelling goes on for the little girl and someone says try not to yell, she probably thinks shes in trouble. so the mom stops crying and calms down and calmly calls out for her and says "im not mad please come out"...and out she came from a rack of clothes. i think everyone breathed a sigh of relief simultaneously.

im so glad both your story and mine had happy endings. i was never an advocate for those backpack harnesses until i became a parent. the thought of someone taking my son terrifies me.

very scary. cannot even imagine.

saw a little girl in Raymor and Flanigan think it was fun to play hide and seek on her parents once. her parents started to freak out but the sales lady very calmly said - just look for her balloon, that's why we try to give the kids balloons on the way in. far too many places to hide in furniture stores so the baloons make them easier to spot - smart idea!

OMG, I am tearing up reading all these stories! That is my biggest fear when I go out with both kids alone (as I often do since I am a SAHM) Even a quick trip to the local zoo isn't so easy when I am alone.

I just can't stop crying. I was meeting DH at our cabana for dinner tonight. I pulled into the lot and started getting everything out of the car. I immediately realize something is going on. A mom and another lady are running around lookingfor a little girl. Asking everyone. All the kids. She is no where. The mom looks into the parking lot and see's another lady getting in her car and says "please, don't let any cars leave,my daughter is missing and (she's crying now) I don't want anyone to take my little girl Chat Icon very smart thinking, but the ladydid nothing. Everyone around is searching for her and yelling her name. She is blonde, 2 or 3 (couldn't really hear) wearing abathing suit. It was so fast, but seemed like forever. I'm trying to get my kids out so I can go help when I hear someone yell "I found her" oh the relief! I immediately see the mom drop to her knees. I started crying. I can imagine what she felt because I know what I felt and I didn't know the girl. I can't stop crying, the sights and sounds of it all just keep replaying in my head. Thank God she is ok and is safe at home with her mommy.

I know exactly how you feel!!!! Different senerio but same feeling...
Yesterday I'm picking up my middle 2 from gymnastics camp. I'm getting them in their cars seats like other mom s were and some moms were already leaving the parking lot. All of a sudden I hear SCRRECH- BANG! A 18 wheeler hit one of the moms and her 2 kids in the mini van. She gets out screaming..help help my babies- my kids. about 20 of us come running over etc. It was a mess. Thank god the kids were ok. They were cut and bledding but in one piece. It was a big scene of firetrucks, cops, ambulances etc. I was a wreck. My 10 yr old and myself were crying. It was just a very scary seeing this truck hit them and not knowing if the kids were okay or not. I can't get the kids crying and the mother screaming out of my head.
thank goodness both of our stories had happy endings!

Re: I witnessed something so upsetting

That is so scary!
A few years ago I was in a Walmart in PA and they had a code Adam...teh store was locked, all the employees were sent to look for a missing boy. My family and I helped, my Dad ended up finding the kid hiding in a clothing rack.
We were al so upset, its like a terrorizing feeling, very scary. What upset me most was when the mom came over she was liek oh hahaha there you are, no emotion or anything. I think I would have died if god forbide I ever lost my child
