Re: If you are a mother of two, one toddler one infant...
I would never think to bring my younger DD to any party DS is invited to unless her name was specifically on the invite! DS gets a lots of b-day party invites, especially since he is in school, and I always get a sitter for my DD - I would be totally rude to bring her along!
but I've seen it - people do bring the siblings!! But I wouild never actually write it on the invite, I guess I just assume if the child's name is not on the invite, they aren't invited!

Re: If you are a mother of two, one toddler one infant...
Thanks for your input everyone...its just interesting. There are lots of cultural differences at work here, which I have found really interesting! Kids parties here are a very much homespun occasion, a game of pass the parcel and some sausage rolls, they aren't to the same scale that Long Island parties might be. We had a joint birthday party and we only spent £120 between 3 of us, so thats like $60 each and we had about 75 people. So its not a money issue. In our group its always siblings because as well as the kids being friends, its alot about us Mummies being friends. And in terms of gifts, well we all put in a few £££ (like £2) and buy one big gift rather than lots of small ones. Also, as tradition goes, we use these parties for not only us and the kids to socialise, but as they are usually on the weekends, its a chance for the daddies to meet and chat. Many a jogging/cycling/tennis relationship has come from this, so is she saying leave daddies at home also?
Anyway, I only have the one kid, so it doesn't affect me, but I really feel for some of the girls with two kids who have husbands who work shifts.

Sorry; I know I don't belong on this board.
Could she have a really small house and honestly be concerned about cramming too many people in, while not denying her child a b-day party? Does she have people over often? It would explain this and the anniversary party, too.
