I know quite a few educated people who plan on voting for Trump.

Their reasons include:

They agree with his stance on immigration/deportation
They agree with his stance on education
They agree with the need for massive governmental cuts due to excess
They have been fed up with the way in which Obama has run this country
They believe that his more extreme views will be tempered by Congress

There are some of the arguments individuals have for voting for Trump

Curious, because I really don't know and would really like to - What exactly is his stance on education? What government cuts has he said he will make? I do know a couple of people who support Trump (ugh!) and they all seem to be focused on the immigration issue

I'll bite.

I'll vote for Trump, or any GOP candidate for that matter over whatever garbage the democrats put out.

For the past eight years under the change dummy, my taxes went up, my healthcare costs skyrocketed, terrorism has gotten worse.

Hillary will be four more years of the same joke. The liberal that Sanders is would be even worse, he truly frightens me. Thank god it at least looks like Hillary will beat Sanders so that's one huge bullet dodged.

Agree. Middle class is becoming a darn charity. On paper my family brings in great money. The taxes (all taxes) and the insurance costs have really lowered our personal savings rate , finances, and long term goals. The market is garbage right now, too many illegals getting full benefits and making cash free and clear. I could go on and on, I'm just disgusted with everything above and any GOP candidate looks better than what we have now.

One more thing to add: I've been reading up on the European immigration crisis and it scares the heck out of me. The stats are many of these Euro nations will become 3 rd world countries in the near future. That's on top of the physical attacks against citizens. It's terrifying especially if you have children and think about their future.

I planned on voting for Clinton, but I don't trust her at this point.

He believes that education is not something the federal government should be involved in. He would like to cut the Deparetment of Education at the federal level and leave it up to the states to do what they want. He is also against common core.
There are a few other departments that he would like to cut at the federal level and leave up to individual states.

A man who could afford to send all of his children to the best private schools money can buy wants to cut the Department of Education. That's just amazing. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I actually agree with his stance on Common Core, but wonder what the replacement would be. He's also a strong proponent of charter schools and a voucher system. He's against teacher unions (and, I'm assuming, other labor unions).

He wants to cut the EPA...

IF you are voting for Trump. Explain Why.

If he were to get elected, 90% of the dumbazz things he says " will happen" couldn't possibly happen without an ok from Congress
I'm convinced that he's a businessman through and through, and he will not man a "bad deal". If building a wall becomes a bad deal, it isn't going to be built. He's only in it for the art of the deal, not what is good for America. That's why he has no real politica affiliation and never could have made it to the top spot without claiming he's a republican.
Now, the real Republicans are trying to distance themselves from him Chat Icon

Legitimate question: Does he propose cutting state funding for education or just funding it with no oversight? (This is based on the assumption that the federal government funds education.)

He doesn't want to replace common core with anything, he wants the federal government to stay out of it.

But a huge part of his demographic are under-educated low-income Americans. So they have no interest or benefit in what he can do for rich people - to them, he appeals to their racist, jingoistic ideologies.

Well, we KNOW he LOVES the uneducated.

A lot of very educated people support Trump. They are just smart enough to not come out and say it lol.

Anyway before anyone eats me for lunch (hehe) I'm not a fan per se. But I can see why a lot of what he says reasonates with educated people, especially around economics (which I think only educated people really understand e.g., corporate inversions, implications of Tax on business, less regulation thus making it more attractive to do business here, implications of China's currency manipulation, etc. ). These are REAL issues that honestly the vast majority of our country probably do not understand or know about. Ill pull a number from the cloud but I'd be willing to bet 90% of the country has no clue what an inversion is, why companies are doing it and what the economic implications are...Trump speaks to a lot of this stuff at a high-level and I'm sure it goes over most people's heads. He doesn't have much of a defined plan but at least he's acknowledging it.

Anyway my .02c rant. And if you read that all congratulations for being as bored as I am!!!

Trump just scares the heck out of me. Unfortunately, he is not going to be able to throw his weight around with foreign political leaders the way he does here because he is a rich celebrity. The Sheiks in Saudia Arabia do not care that he is a celebrity but if he pisses them off enough we are in big trouble. The same for N. Korea and other countries that require delicate/diplomatic dealings to avoid major catostrophic consquences. Maybe I am being over dramatic but I think Trump is going to get use nuked with his big mouth.

Thank you so much for replying and for opening up this discussion. What concerns me about Trump is that he has all these grandiose plans but never seems to back up his reasons for doing a, b and c.

I think this is the biggest myth. If you are undocumented you get all these cool benefits.

The only thing everyone gets is free medical. A hospital CANT turn you away.

This is a good objective analysis of Trump's tax plan (in this layperson's opinion anyway: link

Another analysis I read stated that his plan could increase the national debt by 80% unless it's accompanied by "very large" cuts. And ultimately, despite what he says, the wealthiest will come out with the biggest benefit.

I still find it amusing that people truly believe Mexico will pay for the wall. With what? It won't happen and I feel this is a big issue for many of his supporters. So if he does win, I predict he will be in for only one term.

Right, and you don't get free medical wherever you want - just at an ER. It's not like you can waltz into a fancy UES plastic surgery practice and demand a nose job.

I am terrified of Trump. How can I teach my son to be a good person, when our possible president is a bully that taunts people. Instead of discussing issues he makes fun of disabilities and what people look like. Great frigging role model!
The wall will not be built, he only cares for the 1%, sorry, but he is full of it.

Looking for the logic...

Oh you won't get logic here. A few weeks ago I was told they didn't want facts or an educated response.

No wonder why Trump said he likes the "poorly educated". That's what it is, really.

this is low. I am a democrat and have NEVER voted for a republican IN MY LIFE and probably will not ever that said this is just rude. I hate talking politics for this reason, it brings out the worst in people (myself included). I am no Trump fan but it is unfair to assert bc I don't like him anyone who does is stupid.

I agree. That was a really mean comment.

super mean and really judgmental. It is as bad as saying Sanders supporters all want a free lunch without having to work for it. We are just better than boiling it down to trivialities like that. Chat Icon

Don't worry ladies. That was directed at me because I was the poorly educated dummy who requested not to be "schooled" with links to her favorite "more valid Than any other" websites
I had an opinion and wasn't in the mood for the constant back and forth beating down of my wrong opinion.

Making fun of disabled and clearly misogynistic.

Please explain how my (now ex) housekeepers and their friends are here illegally. They can not leave the country or will never be allowed to return. They make 30-45 dollars an hour cash, have babies / children out of wedlock, have social service money and full health care for themselves and their babies and children? All for free.

Something has happened in the last year or two that has made all of this possible. I'm not sure how/ what happened but they seemed very happy with certain changes.

I'm not being rude, I'm really just curious as to what has happened. These people have full medical benefits. The babies being born have free healthcare. What changed?

A house around the block from me has a few families with a lot of children, renting. They are home cleaners and their kids go to the same school as mine. In addition to those kids, there are also several cars waiting to get kids off the bus every day. So, I would say there are 4 kids living in the house, plus the other 3-4 getting in cars every single day. The owner pays their 13 k in taxes every year, but it certainly doesn't cover all of these children in the school. This is very rare for my area, but if it becomes more common place , the schools would be suffering.

I understand and think that all children should have a wonderful education. But at the same time , it's not the right way to do things.
